Open Question: last minute baby jitters... any advice?
(Wed, 07 Jan 2009 00:38:55 GMT)
ok so im 24 and happily married to the love of my life. im 34 weeks pregnant with my first baby and for some reason it just hit me like a ton of bricks that im about to have a baby! i dint know what made it so real for me, ive been showing for a while, she moves often but i just started to put her nursery together. now im happy that shes almost here, very sad that its no longer going to be just me and my husband, nervous that i will do something wrong and hurt her, and worried about her health and well being. i think that i'm just kinda freaking out because its so real now and its going to happen soon, but does anyone have any advice, or anything to make me feel better?

Open Question: What would usually happen if a baby was born a preemie?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 22:38:08 GMT)
Hi, I am 34w3d pregnant, and sunday, was admitted to the hosp over night because they thought i was going into early labor. So they gave me two of those shots to stop contractions and labor, and im on the pill for of it now. They took the fetal fibronectin test and it came back positive, so the doctors say theres a good chance our baby girl will be born ahead of schedule...possibly in 2 weeks.
This hospital doesnt have a NICU area, so we would have to be rbought to the city which is about an hour away. My husband and I dont have a car, or any kind of transportation and have to depend on the transit bus that only runs 4 hours a day to get us where we need to go. Im scared to death that if I have my baby in that hosp, that they will keep her for a month or something, and then we wont be allowed to stay there, so we will have to be an hour away from her every day of the beginning of her life on earth because we have no way of getting to the city to see her....thats going to kill my husband and I horribly. And before anyone asks, no- we have no family that will help us , except my hubbys sister who will only take us MAYBE once a week if we are really lucky.
Do you think there is any possibility that due to our situation the hospital would allow us to stay?? I thought that because I am going to try to breastfeed that maybe they will let us stay because of that. But i doubt it from all ive heard. What do you think? what were your experiences??
Also, if she is born at 34/35/36 weeks, how long do babies usually have to stay in the hospital?? and what are their survival rates?? thank you for your answers.

Open Question: Braxton Hicks or Baby movement?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 21:21:14 GMT)
I am 34 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I feel this tightening and hardening at the upper part of my stomach. It comes and goes, but I can't tell if it's braxton hicks or his little bottom moving around right there. Is there a way i can tell?

Open Question: i need some advice about my dads girlfriend?..?( kinda long)?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 20:22:57 GMT)
I don't know what to do.. my dad and his girlfriend are living with me and my husband. We have an 18 month old and i am 34 weeks pregnant with another baby. My dads girlfriend is nothing but disrespectful to me and i don't know what to do. She doesn't listen to any of the rules of my home. when we tell her not to eat something because its for my husbands lunch or my 18 month old. She doesn't care and now my dad is getting married to her. She is manic depressant and bi-polar and drinks ALOT. My husband has decided to stop smoking so he said that there is NO smoking in the house allowed at all (we had made this rule when we first go the place but when winter hit it was just to cold for them to smoke out side so they decided it would be ok to smoke in the house as long as the baby or i were in the room and the window was open). well i told them this morning that they needed to start going outside to smoke and she threw a huge fit and turned around and lit a cig right in my kitchen. after that she had 3 more. i cant kick them out because i don't have the heart to make my own father homeless in a strange town (he came down here from 600 miles away to visit and fell for her so he stayed)
I guess my question would be how would you handle this? How would you go about saying something without causing problems? What would you say/do to get her to stop?
thank you guys so much and you are right i know i need to kick them out. That have already found a place of there own but they wont be moving in to it until Feb. 6th (that's only 6 days from my scheduled c-section) i just need to know what to do until then and please no rude answers i do love my children and my husband

Open Question: Is it normal to black out while pregnant?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 16:12:11 GMT)
I've been getting the pounding heart (normal), very short of breath (normal), and bad stomach acid (normal). But lately I've also been blacking out after feeling short of breath and dizzy and I wasn't sure if that is something common or if I should go to the er. My next apt. isn't for another 2 weeks and im 34 weeks. The last time I was at the doctor they said my blood pressure was very low but even when i just ate my eyes get cloudy and the black. Has this happened to anyone before?
I think I will head over to the e.r. my doc never picks up the phone. Worse comes to worse they call me crazy and send me home, right? Thanks for the advice guys.

Open Question: Question about disability when pregnant....?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 06:17:16 GMT)
Hi. I have a history of premature labor, and have been having contractions and alot of other early labor symptoms. If the baby is born before 34 weeks, he would have to be sent to a hospital an hour and a half from where I live and spend a long time in the NICU. The doctor took me out of work on disability. I keep hearing that if you work for Boces, which I do- as a teacher's aide, that you aren't eligible for disability. I don't understand how this could be true, if it is. On my pay stub the things that are taken out are retirement, FICA, FICA medicare, federal tax, state tax, and union dues. I am going to contact the companies HR department tomorrow, I'm just really curious now. If I can't collect disability, I am in a whole lot of trouble. I'm a single mom and support myself and twin 3 year olds. I can't survive with no income! If anyone KNOWS anything about this, please fill me in! Thanks in advance!

Resolved Question: Question about disability benefits while pregnant...?

Political: I have been working my a$$ off since I was 14 years old and paying into disability. So the 2 or 3 weeks that I'd be collecting it isn't mooching off the taxpayers. I'm so sorry that the father cheating on me when I was pregnant isn't convenient for you. Get a life.
I am in NY.
Thank you all for your help. Marine- That link really had some valuable information. Thank you!

(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 02:54:44 GMT)

Has this happened to anyone else?

Open Question: Do you think my due date could be wrong?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 01:09:47 GMT)
Ok, so i am supposed to be 27 weeks and 5 days pregnant, but when i went in for my doctors appointment today i was measuring at 31 weeks. I have had two ultra sounds, one at 8 weeks, and one at 20 weeks, and both went with the same due date. But, when i was only 25 weeks, i was having contractions and had to go to the hospital to stop them with a shot and a pill. Also, i recently started gaining weight very fast! Not anywhere but the stomach though. Before i got pregnant i only weighed 115, and now i have gained 35 lbs, 20 of it within the last month and a half. I have been tested for gestational diabetes and i dont have it. Also my only weight is in my stomach, everywhere else im still the same size except for my boobs. Now, the doctor wants me to get an ultra sound because i am measuring out to be 31 weeks. Does anyone think i could be having my baby earlier than expected. Also i have a family history of having preemies. My dad was born at 33 weeks, and I was born at 34. Even my sister was born at 35 weeks. So what do you think my chances are for having my baby early? And when should i expect her? Oh and also, my last period was in early May.

Open Question: Does a soft cervix indicate labor will come sometime soon?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 00:16:24 GMT)
I am confused as to what a soft cervix means or what it indicates. I was told today that I am 1cm dilated and have a soft cervix, but no idea if that is a good thing or not lol I don't know why I didn't think to ask!
34 weeks 2 days pregnant

Open Question: 1cm dilated, soft cervix, what does this mean?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 23:59:35 GMT)
I'm 34 weeks pregnant and I went to the doctor's today, I told them I was having a lot of Braxton Hicks and at times there would be more than 5 in an hour, so they did a pelvic exam.
The doctor told me I was 1cm dilated and that my cervix was soft.
I understand the 1cm part, but what does it mean when the cervix is soft?

Open Question: Am I pregnant or is my period just irregular?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 23:31:11 GMT)
Okay. So let me start with background. I was on the generic form of the b/c pill NOR-QD (mini pill) from 6 weeks after my daughter's birth (roughly mid-July 2004) until this past August. I went off the pill for several reasons. One -- I was forgetting to take pills or taking them late and was starting to get breakthru bleeding/periods when for the previous years I'd had NO period. Two -- I was going to be dropped from my father's insurance due to graduating college. Three -- I'm getting married in August of this year and wanted to have a regular period back by that time as my fiance and I are planning to TTC fairly soon afterward.
I got my first period after going off the pill on August 25th. My cycles have been as follows:
36 days
34 days
31 days
Today is day 35 and I have yet to get my period, although I have felt some slight cramping most of the week this week. I realize it can take 6+ months to become regular, but going on my last cycle, I'm about 4 days late for my period at this point. My fiance and I do have unprotected sex; however, he has never finished inside of me. I know this is not foolproof. I took a HPT Saturday and it came back negative.
So my question is this: with the information about when I went off b/c, the pattern of my cycles, and information about my sexual activity -- should I continue to be concerned about a possible pregancy? Or has my cycle just not regulated itself yet? How "irregular" should I expect my periods to be? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

Open Question: what effect does Gestational Diabetes have on unborn baby?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 22:27:37 GMT)
I am 34 weeks pregnant and i just seen the Dr. today, she said my 1 hr diabetes test was really high so i now have to go for the 3 hr test. I have 2 other children and this was never a problem, so i am very worried now that i am so far along. She says if the new test come back bad that not to worry we still have time to fix it and im like how geeze im due in about 5 weeks, anyways i asked her how does this effect the baby she said it usually effects the development of the organs but mostly it effects the heart. I have read all over the internet and i cant find anything about it effecting the babies heart, and also i had a ultrasound at 22weeks and all her organs and heart were looking just peachy, so just to give me some peace of mind has anyone had a similar situation that can give me some insight on if i should be really worried or not, i appreciate it thank you.
thanks to all your answers they have made me feel way better about this. I just now hope my baby isnt too big to fit in her pretty lil newborn outfits lol.... thanks again

Open Question: Is labor near for me? ?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 20:14:53 GMT)
I'm 33 weeks pregnant, this is my first pregnancy. This past week I've noticed alot of changes. The doctor already told me like 4 weeks ago that the baby was head first and it didnt look like he was gunna move from that position!! This past week during the day I will all of a sudden feel like I need to lie down I just all of a sudden get really exausted soo I have taken a nap for the past couple days. Just the night before I woke up in the early morning hours feeling horrible. Nauseas and I had the worst case of diarreaha. I went to lay back down and had to go back to the toilet again. Then last night it felt like I just couldn't get comfortable. For the past 2 months I get sudden pinching feelings right where my whole is, it feels like I have to pee all of a sudden. Just last night it got worse. That feeling got constant and I kept going to the bathroom thinking I had to pee really bad and barely any pee would come out? It was just an all around uncomfortable feeling.
What do these things mean? Do you think I'm near labor?
My doctor told me after 34 weeks they don't try and stop your labor if you go into it...

Open Question: I just had an ultrasound today and the baby weighed 5lbs 13oz....?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 19:58:13 GMT)
So here are my questions....
According to the calendar I am only 34.5 weeks pregnant and the baby is already weighing in at almost 6lbs. Are the weights they do on the ultrasound usually right, were they right for you (if that applies)?
And also my due date done from my Last Period is February 12, but according to the ultrasound my due date is actually February 2 and I am almost 36 weeks. What was right for you, your calendar due date or the ultrasound due date?

Open Question: Did anyone else lose any weight the last couple weeks?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 19:00:30 GMT)
Hi, my pre pregnancy weight was 105 pounds, i am over 39 weeks pregnant now (due saturday) anyways at my most recent appointment my weight had dropped one pound, is that normal? I weighed 139 and i was 140, so i did gain 35 pounds (well.. 34 now) and that seems like a lot to me, so does that make that lost pound okay? my last appointment was already a week ago, i go in tomorrow, but my scale at home says my weight is still 139, is that bad? I havent lost any more but still nothing gaining either.. I thought you gained the most in the last month?

Open Question: im wondering if this is possible?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 17:56:21 GMT)
i had a m/c at 6 weeks on the 25th nov, i had a scan but nothing could be seen, so they just said m/c, even though before hand they had told me they wouldnt be able to see anything being so early, anyways, ive never really felt right since then, i have had my sore boobs since, and eating makes me queesy, i had a bleed on the 25th dec, (way to early for me i have a 34 day cycle) it was only very light, lasted 3 days, was very pale pink, and covered no more than 1 1/2 towels or so, anyways, i now feel constantly sick, tired my nipples are so sore and itchy, swollen, and i keep getting the tugging feeling in my tummy, i have always had them when pregnant, plus i am peeing way to often, and i have lost 1/2 stone but my clothes dont fit as my tummy is swollen.
so i have 2 questions, is it possible that i never had a m/c (getting wiggly feelings in tummy like flips, felt my son at 10 weeks doing this)
or can i have gotten preg after the m/c and still had this bleed at xmas?
i know ppl get sick of these questions, but anyone who this has happened to would be great to hear from you, i dont really wanna test incase its all in my head
thank you all in advance xx

Open Question: The young girl who baby sits my son is pregnant?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 17:40:19 GMT)
I just got an e mail from the 16 yr old girl who sometimes baby sits my 19 month old little boy on the weekends. She only watches him for a few hours at a time Fri or Sat night while me and my husband get some dinner or see a movie. The email said the she is 9 wks pregnant and will still watch Sam until she is 34 weeks. I am not really sure how to handle this situation. I didn't even know if she had a boyfriend. Should I find a new sitter, or let her keep watching him? Sam really likes her and is comfortable around her, but now I think she may be irresponsible because she got pregnant at her age.

Open Question: Am I supposed to let the doctor know?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 15:36:53 GMT)
I'm 34 weeks pregnant, I have been getting Braxton Hicks continuously since yesterday morning, I decided to time them and they are very irregular (7 min, 12 min, 30 min, 10 min.. etc) but I have had more than 5 in an hour, more than once. They have been making me feel quite nauseated at times or like I really need to use the bathroom but then nothing happens.
I have tried drinking a ton of water, laying down, taking baths etc and nothing makes them go away. They sometimes stop for an hour but then come back.
Should I let my doctor know today at my appointment, or is that just a normal pregnancy thing I shouldn't be worried about?
I'm a passive person, I don't like to waste the doctor's time with stupid questions if it really isn't necessary.
My appointment is in just a few hours, I am sure I will be fine until then. I do not think it's labor as the contractions are too irregular, I just didn't know if I was supposed to tell my doctor anyways.

Open Question: Pregnant after using plan b?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 15:36:29 GMT)
I had sex 2 days after my period stopped. My partner used the pull-out method. I took plan b within 72 hrs, as prescribed by my doctor. I have pretty regular periods, and usually ovulate 2 weeks after my period. I am 25 years old and have a cycle about every 34-36 days. After taking plan b, I got my period 5 days later. I haven't gotten a period since then, but it's only been 23 days since that cycle began. I am just very nervous I am pregnant. I don't have any signs of pregnancy, just that I am very bloated. Is there a chance I could be, even though he pulled out and I probably wasn't even ovulating? Please give me some sanity about this! Thanks!

Open Question: Timeable irregular contractions - braxton hicks?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 14:41:08 GMT)
I'm 34 weeks pregnant
Since around 11am (eastern time) yesterday, I have had contractions at least every 20-30 minutes. This morning I decided to write down the times I am getting them, so far it's been 9:19, 9:26 and 9:38. Are these considered irregular and braxton hicks?
I have a doctors appointment today at 3 and plan to ask then, I just wanted some input before that point.
I just wanted to add - I was able to sleep last night, so I'm not sure if they were occuring all night long, but I do know 4 times I was awoken by them and that I felt really nauseated and sick to my stomach when that happened.

Open Question: People commenting on the size of my stomach during my twin pregnancy?
(Sun, 04 Jan 2009 04:56:43 GMT)
Hi! I am going into my 38th week of pregnancy with twins. I was at work today and a lady commented that I wasn't big for having twins and that they'll probably only be 3-4 lbs when their born. She made me angry with that comment because its rude and not something I believe someone should say. I've only gained 34 lbs during this pregnancy. With my first daughter, I was average size pregnant woman with all of my pregnancy in my belly and that's how it is now. I am completely all belly. Has any had twins and their stomach wasn't very big? Sometimes I think people think I should be extremely huge because of the twins. A lot of people have made comments about my size. My babies are in a circle.

Open Question: I need a middle name for a girl?
(Sun, 04 Jan 2009 03:45:31 GMT)
I'm 34 weeks pregnant with a girl. My husband and I have decided to name our daughter Anastasia, however the middle name we picked (Grace) has become SO overly popular with our friend group that we really don't want it anymore, it's kind of like how the name Marie is overused.
What are some middle names that would sound go with Anastasia, that aren't overly popular our last name starts with McC, so names like Makayla or Mackenzie wont work.

Open Question: 34 weeks pregnant, can you help?
(Sun, 04 Jan 2009 03:38:49 GMT)
I am almost 34 weeks pregnant. My belly has been making all sorts of growling and bubbleing noises. Me and my husband think its the baby moving and talking, but not sure why she does it constantly all day and night, we eat and get full so its not like we are hungry. What could this be? Also I have severe pain in the front of my pelvis on the left side that doesnt go away no matter if I change positions, and sometimes it gets worse. what does that mean. it hurts to even get up and walk. also have pain in my vaginal area too.

Resolved Question: Need help brainstorming meal ideas?
(Sun, 04 Jan 2009 01:04:00 GMT)
I'm currently 34 weeks pregnant
and I've decided its about time I start freezing some left-overs
so that I have something easy to warm-up and eat postpartum
(because, lets face it, who wants to cook when there's a newborn to care for)
I will be breast-feeding so I'm looking for meal ideas that are both pregnancy friendly, as well as breast-feeding friendly
So far I've decided to make and freeze:
stuffed peppers
lasagna
strognoff
(all things that are pretty easy to make:
I normally love to cook, I'm just concerned that I'll be too tired to cook postpartum)
My husband has also promised to keep the house stocked with fresh fruits and veggies postpartum, since I've always loved to snack on fresh fruits and veggies; its an easy and healthy snack.
Any other ideas?
Remember, we're just brainstorming here, so anything goes.
Thanks for the help!

Ok so I took my son to the hospital a few days ago for viral gastroenteritis, now me and my husband have it! The thing is I'm 34 weeks pregnant and the constant vomiting and using the bathroom is causing me to contract and have a lot of lower abdominal and back pain.. Should I be worried? Or will it just pass with no problem?

Open Question: How accurate are ultrasounds in determining gestational age, when you first get pregnant? ?
(Sun, 04 Jan 2009 00:26:52 GMT)
Lets say between 5 and 10 weeks. I feel that I am 3 weeks farther along; than what has been told this whole time. I am 31 weeks now, but I think according to my calculations I am 34 weeks. Even though I didnt really know when my last period was because I missed a month of having it. So there is a gap. But according to the first ultrasound it says otherwise. The thing is I don't believe I concieved in June, like the sonogram stated. I just want to know, if anyone has been in this situation and can relate to this. Not some moron. Answers are appreciated.
The reason I know it wasn't June... is because the hubby and I weren't intimate because I was taken care of my dad/ brother while my mom was out of the country and I myself was getting my husband and daughter ready and taking care of them as well...before we left to go out of the country, there was just no time to be all loving and of course no privacy either. Haha. That's why I am shocked by both Ultrasounds sticking to my due date of March 6, 2009. BTW...I look like I am ready to pop!!!!

Open Question: Braxton Hicks - feeling light headed?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 13:50:26 GMT)
I'm 34 weeks pregnant and I have recently started noticing my braxton hicks contractions. Not because they hurt, but because when they happen I feel like I have suddenly had some of my oxygen cut off and have trouble breathing, the other day I got really light headed even though I thought I was taking deep slow breaths, and felt as if I was going to pass out.
Is this normal?

Resolved Question: How soon after delivering can I use Mirena?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 10:44:36 GMT)
I'm currently 34 weeks pregnant and searching for reliable birth control methods to discuss with my OB. I've been failed by both the pill and patch so until I found out about Mirena was considering sterilization. My husband and I are both very active and aren't likely to wait the 6 week recommended so I'd like to get on something quickly.
How soon will an OB insert Mirena after birth?

(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 07:31:08 GMT)
so i heard a long time ago that your supposed to stop having sex when your in your third trimester. i guess it's kinda late to ask this question but i figured if it was an issue my dr. would have said something since i'm already 34 weeks pregnant. i was just wondering though if you are even supposed to at all cause i have heard that you don't have to stop having sex at all
