Open Question: Odd spot on my left ovary???????
(Wed, 07 Jan 2009 02:56:21 GMT)
I just had miscarriage last week at 7 1/2 weeks pregnant. The DR kinda knew that I would probably miscarry because my gest. sac was measuring two weeks behind and I recently miscarried in Sept. also at 4 weeks. Both miscarriages were natural no D&C was needed.
My question is when the DR was doing one ultrasound checking the progress of the miscarriage last Tuesday she said that I had a "odd" spot on my left ovary. I went back Friday to make sure the miscarriage was complete and when I asked the DR that was doing this ultrasound what it could be she looked but could only bearly find my left ovary?? I was so confused and she said that it was probably just a cyst or something. I was at a new DR because My husband and I were staying with his mom. For about the past two years I have had problems with my left side hurting mostly around the time of my period so since we are back home I called my normal DR and had the records faxed to him, he is reviewing them and is going to give me a call when he gets done. In the mean time this is driving me crazy because I have carried three healthy baby's pretty much to term (36 weeks was the earliest) now I have had two miscarriages in 4 months.
Could this spot on my left ovary effect that?? and what could it be??

Open Question: HELP! Should I call my doctor or go to the hospital?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 23:57:43 GMT)
Sorry I'm posting this twice. I should of edited some stuff of it before I submitted it. Thank you to all that answered. Just getting some more opinions too.
I'm 17 years old and almost 36 weeks pregnant. I've been having those Braxtin Hicks contractions for the past month or so. But today I've had sharp pains in my stomach. Mainly on the sides. And I went on a huge cleaning frenzy this afternoon when I got out of school. I didn't do a bunch of moving around work. Alot of it was sitting down. Like sorting out laundry. And folding baby clothes. Stuff like that. Now I'm having constant low dull back pain and a shooting pain going down both my inner thighs. I've been in constant discomfort all day and the pains in my stomach come and go. What should I do??!?!

Open Question: What would usually happen if a baby was born a preemie?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 22:38:08 GMT)
Hi, I am 34w3d pregnant, and sunday, was admitted to the hosp over night because they thought i was going into early labor. So they gave me two of those shots to stop contractions and labor, and im on the pill for of it now. They took the fetal fibronectin test and it came back positive, so the doctors say theres a good chance our baby girl will be born ahead of schedule...possibly in 2 weeks.
This hospital doesnt have a NICU area, so we would have to be rbought to the city which is about an hour away. My husband and I dont have a car, or any kind of transportation and have to depend on the transit bus that only runs 4 hours a day to get us where we need to go. Im scared to death that if I have my baby in that hosp, that they will keep her for a month or something, and then we wont be allowed to stay there, so we will have to be an hour away from her every day of the beginning of her life on earth because we have no way of getting to the city to see her....thats going to kill my husband and I horribly. And before anyone asks, no- we have no family that will help us , except my hubbys sister who will only take us MAYBE once a week if we are really lucky.
Do you think there is any possibility that due to our situation the hospital would allow us to stay?? I thought that because I am going to try to breastfeed that maybe they will let us stay because of that. But i doubt it from all ive heard. What do you think? what were your experiences??
Also, if she is born at 34/35/36 weeks, how long do babies usually have to stay in the hospital?? and what are their survival rates?? thank you for your answers.

Open Question: I need help choosing a birth control that works and is easy to use...?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 16:22:30 GMT)
Right now I am on implanon and it sucks. I have gained 45 ponds in one year and bleed for 6 weeks, every six weeks. I talked to a obgyn about this and she said it was normal that this was my rythm. But when I went on the implanon website they said it wasnt normal.
Also i fall into that .01% of people that most birth controls do not work for. I have five children. the crazy part is that after an accident when I was a child they had to surgically remove half of my uterus and I was told that It there was only a 20% chance that I would ever concieve and only 2% that I would ever carry a child to term. Imagine my shock when I did become pregnant and carried a healthy baby girl for 36 weeks.
After that I went on depo one year later exactly I was pregnant again.
After that I went on the pill and just to be safe my husband and I used condoms and spermicide. I became pregnant again exactly one year later.
With my fourth we decided to use the family planning method. It worked for 3 years until we got a little intoxicated and we blew off the timing.
With my fifth I had the Minerna IUD. Despite what they tell you apparently the real statistics are that 1 in 10 get pregnant with this. I went another 3 years before I did get pregnant.
Before you say I should get my tubes tied, or do something permanent, this is absolutley out of the question, one because it is a miracle that I became pregnant in the first place and 2 becasue I plan on being a surrogate for my sister in law who cannot have children. Also my mom is like me she had 7 children and my little brother was the result of my mom having her tubes tied and my dad had a vesectomy. 12 years after her 6 my bro was born and I am 22 years older than him.
In the meantime I need something with out all the side effects. all the other birth controls I was on, I never got a period at all and didnt gain any wait. I was a size 6 after my 4th child and now I am pushing size 18.
Any suggettions would be great or even websites where I can compare different methods.

Open Question: What should I do? Extremely concerned....?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 06:42:55 GMT)
I'm 36 weeks pregnant with a high risk pregnancy. They've stopped labor 3 times already and given me steroid shots to hasten her lung development. I had been having contractions every 10 minutes for 2 months straight before they changed to every 5-7 minutes about 2 weeks ago. The docs think that that is just my baseline now and other than monitoriing me a little more closely (twice weekly instead of once), they are not that concrened.
Now, what has me so concerned is today I went to the bathroom and had bloody urine. It didn't freak me out too awfully bad because I had that often with my son due to having a constant UTI that didn't respond to antibiotics. However, I still called L&D because if it is a UTI I know I need to be started on antibiotics. While talking to the floor nurse giving her my info she asked me if I had had any abdominal trauma today, which my son overheard and piped up saying that I had slammed the breaks on the car to prevent getting sideswiped. I had completely forgotten about that. We were on our way home from getting dinner, driving through my subdivision (25 mph limit) when a pickup truck blew the ONLY stop sign doing atleast 50. I was just entering the intersection when he came barrelling through and therefore I slammed the breaks to prevent beign hit. My seatbelt did "lock" but I didn't jerk forward and didn't feel any pain because of the slow speed I was doing. It was when I got home after that (about 5 minutes later) that I first noticed blood in my urine. The nurse asked the doc on call and they said to put on a pad wait an hour and if I was still bleeding. the baby stopped moving or my water broke to come back in. Their answer kinda ticked me off because I specifically told them that the blood was only in my urine, I was not actually bleeding from down there. Anyways, I had bloody urine for the next 4-5 times I went and now nothing. No blood, crystal clear urine. Which makes me wonder if maybe instead of a UTI, it had something to do with the seatbelt.
Should I call L&D back and talk to them? Should I just relax and wait until my regular appointment on Wednesday morning and ask my doc or should I do something else? If it was just me I'd not be worried, but I don't want anything to be wrong with my baby girl
To Ash. I understand where you are coming from with your comment, but the baby is fine ( or was at my last check up) the medical issues, with the exception of today's worries have all been due to a medical problem with ME, not my daughter. I have an incompetant cervix, uterine prolapse, PCOS and a few other issues that are making this a difficult pregnancy for me. All except for the PCOS were not diagnosed until after I found out I was pregnant.
As of my last appointment the only "risk" to the baby was preterm labor, which I also had with my son, but I've already carried my daughter longer than I did with him and all tests have stated that she is completely healthy and developed. The only concern I have now is if the seatbelt somehow did something to hurt me that could possibly hurt her.

Open Question: Am I pregnant or is my period just irregular?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 23:31:11 GMT)
Okay. So let me start with background. I was on the generic form of the b/c pill NOR-QD (mini pill) from 6 weeks after my daughter's birth (roughly mid-July 2004) until this past August. I went off the pill for several reasons. One -- I was forgetting to take pills or taking them late and was starting to get breakthru bleeding/periods when for the previous years I'd had NO period. Two -- I was going to be dropped from my father's insurance due to graduating college. Three -- I'm getting married in August of this year and wanted to have a regular period back by that time as my fiance and I are planning to TTC fairly soon afterward.
I got my first period after going off the pill on August 25th. My cycles have been as follows:
36 days
34 days
31 days
Today is day 35 and I have yet to get my period, although I have felt some slight cramping most of the week this week. I realize it can take 6+ months to become regular, but going on my last cycle, I'm about 4 days late for my period at this point. My fiance and I do have unprotected sex; however, he has never finished inside of me. I know this is not foolproof. I took a HPT Saturday and it came back negative.
So my question is this: with the information about when I went off b/c, the pattern of my cycles, and information about my sexual activity -- should I continue to be concerned about a possible pregancy? Or has my cycle just not regulated itself yet? How "irregular" should I expect my periods to be? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

Open Question: I just had an ultrasound today and the baby weighed 5lbs 13oz....?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 19:58:13 GMT)
So here are my questions....
According to the calendar I am only 34.5 weeks pregnant and the baby is already weighing in at almost 6lbs. Are the weights they do on the ultrasound usually right, were they right for you (if that applies)?
And also my due date done from my Last Period is February 12, but according to the ultrasound my due date is actually February 2 and I am almost 36 weeks. What was right for you, your calendar due date or the ultrasound due date?

Open Question: Pregnant after using plan b?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 15:36:29 GMT)
I had sex 2 days after my period stopped. My partner used the pull-out method. I took plan b within 72 hrs, as prescribed by my doctor. I have pretty regular periods, and usually ovulate 2 weeks after my period. I am 25 years old and have a cycle about every 34-36 days. After taking plan b, I got my period 5 days later. I haven't gotten a period since then, but it's only been 23 days since that cycle began. I am just very nervous I am pregnant. I don't have any signs of pregnancy, just that I am very bloated. Is there a chance I could be, even though he pulled out and I probably wasn't even ovulating? Please give me some sanity about this! Thanks!

Open Question: 35 weeks pregnant tomorrow with big baby?
(Sun, 04 Jan 2009 21:28:58 GMT)
The baby was measured at 30 weeks and weighed 5lbs then measured again at 33 weeks and weighed 7lbs and I am wondering if with him being so big if he can throw me into labor early. which i have c sections so it doesn't matter about size. This is my 4th pregnancy and all the other kids they measured with ultrasound they were right on about. my last kid weighed 3lbs. 3ozs at 30 weeks and this baby weighs almost 2lbs more at that stage and the last baby weighed 8lbs 13ozs at 39 weeks. The docs are afraid he will throw me into early labor which is why i am hoping to make it to at least 37 weeks but if it happens by 36 weeks they won't stop me from having him only if i go into labor before 36 weeks. Just wanting to know ya'lls opinions on the chances this baby will throw me into labor early i have been having bad bh for the past 2 1/2 months and i am only 5'1 by the way so i have no room at all left.
my first kid was born at 36 weeks due to emergency and the other two were at 39 weeks were takin a week early due to c section i was actually having contractions with the last 2 when i went in
i can't go 40 weeks anyway i have c sections and they take baby at 39 weeks the latest
i have extra fluid also which is making me even bigger

I had a cerclage at 29 weeks and Had it removed at 36 weeks, Now I'm 37 weeks and 4 days, I thought I would have had my baby immediately after the cerclage was taken, cos my doctor was almost certain that that was what would happen. Open Question: Manual Turning of a breech baby?
(Sun, 04 Jan 2009 05:54:15 GMT)
Hey there, I'm 36 weeks pregnant, and my baby is in a transverse position. I have a condition where there is scar tissue in my uterus and the baby is being held in the transverse position because of this. My doctors decided they are going to the an external version (manual turning of the baby). Has anyone had this? Do you deliver at a normal time? Does it hurt? The doctors are going to try and break the scar tissue and push her down into position. Any info is good, thanks!
I have a reg doc and a high risk doc... my high risk one is who plans on doing it. He makes it sound like he really does not want to give me a c section for some reason. He hasn't really even asked me.

Open Question: 36 weeks with tons of cramps when walking and a lot of discharge. Could this mean labor is near?
(Sun, 04 Jan 2009 02:06:46 GMT)
I'm currently 36 weeks 4 days pregnant and at my last check up my doctor told me that I was dilated one centimeter and that my cervix was still thick. Today I went grocery shopping with my husband and after just a few minutes of walking around the store my entire stomach started tightening up but there was no pain. This lasted for a couple of minutes and then came back less than five minutes later. This continued the entire time I was shopping. I also had to take a trip to the bathroom because I could feel wetness in my underwear (sorry if tmi). When I got to the bathroom I found that my underwear had quite a bit of mucus in it. I went home and laid down and haven't experienced any mucus since but my stomach has still been tightening on and off but a lot less than it was at the grocery store. Again, I haven't experienced any pain, just tightening of my entire stomach, increase of discharge and an increase in vaginal pressure. Any ideas of what this could mean?

Resolved Question: Has anyone had an external version? (turning of breech baby?)?
(Sun, 04 Jan 2009 00:00:20 GMT)
Hello, I'm 36 weeks pregnant tomorrow, and my baby is in a transverse position. My docs told me that they are going to try an external version at around 37 weeks... my question is, When you have the version, do you deliver right after? Or do you hope that the baby stays in the head down position until 40 weeks? Thanks.
I would try all the different positions and things, however, I have something called a synechia in my uterus... like a band of tissue. It's keeping the baby in this position and the doctor is going to try and break it with the version. So really none of the activities would really help me unfortunatly.

Resolved Question: Please help! My dad & I are sleeping with the same woman?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 20:16:29 GMT)
I'm a 36 year old guy living with my dad who is 67 in Chicago. In June last year, we hired a 19 year old Puerto Rican housekeeper. She is really hot and I started having a sexual relationship with her almost immediately. However I found out last week that she is pregnant and that my dad has been sleeping with her too (She doesn't know who the father is). I'm really mad with her and I know I should boot the little ho out for messing me around, but I need her body so badly. What should I do?

Resolved Question: Do you wanna play the baby name game?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 16:09:57 GMT)
This is the third baby name game that I've done. If you liked the game then please star it.
1.You are 19 years old and you find out that you are pregnant. You are very happy to give birth to a little girl at 36 weeks. She has blonde hair and blue eyes. What do you name this cute baby girl?
2.3 years later you find out that you are pregnant again. It's another girl! You are very happy. She comes at 32 weeks. She has light blonde hair and green eyes. What do you name her?
3.4 years later you and your husband are so happy to have 2 little girls, but you want a big family. So you get pregnant once again. This time it's not just one child it's 4! You and your husband are happier than ever. You have 3 girls and 1 boy. But something went wrong. The little boy died after you just had him. The little girls have light brown hair and jasmine green eyes. What do you name them?
So now you have a 7 y/o daughter, a 4 y/o daughter, and newborn quads.
4.2 years later you get pregnant again. This time it's another little girl. She has red hair, green eyes, and some freckles. What do you name her?
5.You and your husband are ready to stop having children. So you go to the doctor, and he tells you that you are pregnant once again. You are hoping for a little boy with all of the girls in your house. Then you find out your not just having one boy your having 3! And 2 girls. They have dark brown hair and light blue eyes. Resolved Question: Question about a breech/transverse baby - A lot more details below.?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 14:25:57 GMT)
I am 34w1d and due February 13th (lucky Friday the 13th). Our baby has been in either a transverse or breech position since my last ultrasound at 24w5d.
We have tried many suggestions to get her to move into a head down position. My favorite was putting a bag of ice on the top of my belly and headphones with music at the bottom of my belly - the hope is that she moves away from the cold and towards the music. Nothing has worked.
Now, I have been dreaming about a completely natural drug-free vaginal birth since the time I found out I was pregnant. However, I know that anything can happen and was prepared for that. I just believe in letting my baby do what she wants to do and come into the world in the way that she wants to come into the world. My husband on the other hand would really rather me not have to have a C-Section.
The doctor and midwife both explained to me that if by 36 weeks she has not turned herself around into a head down position, then they will need to take her by C-Section. The idea is that if she doesn't do it by 36 weeks then she is not going to do it at all. It's a high risk pregnancy already so they won't even attempt to move her around themselves because it could lower her heart rate and then force me into a an emergency C-Section - meaning I would be knocked out and my husband couldn't be present for her birth.
Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas for how to get her to move around or how to deal with the next two weeks? As I said, this doesn't bother me so much - I just want a healthy and happy baby when she comes, so if I have to have a C-Section to make that happen, then I will. It's more my husband and his mother's concern that she hasn't turned yet and I might need a C-Section.
Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Open Question: 36 weeks pregnant long time since I've seen a doctor?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 09:27:08 GMT)
Im pregnant for the first time and scared because I haven't been seeing a doctor regularly, I saw a doctor regularly for the first 20 weeks. After that I had some insurance and money issues and the doctor discharged me as a client... so I went 12 weeks without seeing a doctor. Finally I filed for medicaid and started seeing another doctor, this doctor didn't do much he measured my belly checked the fetal heartbeat and urine and sent me on my way. I saw him for 2 weeks and did my gestational diabetes test, which was elivated so I had to do the second one... mean while before I could get my doctor to give me the results they discharged me too because I still have 20 days before my medicaid case is approved, my medicaid is still pending.
The baby is due on 2-1-09 and I wont be able to see a doctor till the end of all this when Im in labor, Im upset and worried... its been a slightly complicated pregnancy in the first place, I had a kidney infection in week 21 and had to go to the hospital because I started contracting I was given a shot to stop the contractions and sent home with medication. I have had severe depression and mood swings, I have a problem keeping myself hydrated, and I just don't know what to do and I want my baby to be okay.
Lately I've been having back pains, contractions here and there and been losing my mucus plug... what if I go into labor early? will my baby be okay? and what if I have gestational diabetes and get no treatment? How important is the strep b test and how can I take it? I don't know how big the baby is yet either and Im concerned about her size.
Baby Alysha moves around alot, so I figure shes okay since shes active... but I need something more concrete! can anyone suggest what I should do?

Voting Question: Could I go into labor soon?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 03:16:55 GMT)
I'm 36 weeks and 5 days pregnant. I have been having Braxton Hicks contractions for the last month, but lately they've seemed to be getting a bit more frequent and regular and sometimes a bit painful, like period cramps, only they're not getting any more intense. I went to a doctor's appointment four days ago and she said I was 80% effaced but only 1 cm dilated. She says a rough estimate of my baby's weight is at least 5 and a half pounds, probably six. Anyway this morning I am pretty sure I lost my mucus plug. But when I try to feel my own cervix like I've been taught in my nursing classes it still only feels like a 1 cm dilation. But I am only just learning so I'm not sure. Could I possibly go into labor soon?

Resolved Question: is it normal for a doctor to do a membrane sweep at 36 weeks?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 02:16:24 GMT)
So last monday I was 36 weeks and 1 day pregnant. I went in he checked with his fingers to see if I was dilated and then he did a quick swab with q-tips he said he was doing a culture, whatever that means. So why would he do that so early? And it did hurt like heck. Was what he did a membrane sweep? How often will he be doing this? And for the record I am not dilated at all!

(Fri, 02 Jan 2009 19:27:30 GMT)
This is my first pregnancy so i'm not sure how i am meant to feel lol but i honestly feel like i might go into labour any day now lol. I get braxton hicks alot but the main change is she feels soooo low! I feel like if i jump my waters will break! lol, and i hate to be rude but instead of feeling like i was holding her in my tummy i feel like i am holding her in my lady parts... Literally lol. Again i hate to be rude but it's the same feeling of having a tampon in only bigger lol. Does everyone feel like this at my stage or do you think i am close to labour? OOO it's pretty exciting to think i might be, scary but exciting! lol
