Open Question: Should I put fathers name on birth certificate?
(Wed, 07 Jan 2009 00:12:11 GMT)
Im 37 weeks pregnant and in my first month of pregnancy I found the baby's father using meth i have left him numbers of times and came back home with him promising to stop. He switched to cocaine and Im still trying to stick by him and give him a chance. He hides this from me so, hes messed up and I don't even know. He is abusive and drinks on top of doing these drugs. Ive been hit with hot pizza, pulled by my hair, etc. I have only asked for love and respect, but I get the same treatment, he is sorry after he has done these things to me but hurts me again. I may leave him after my little girl is born, but I don't want him around because of the drugs. Should I list him as the father? PS I LIVE WITH HIM

Open Question: Question about labour with baby #2?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 23:52:09 GMT)
Do 2nd babies usually come earlier tahn the first baby? I had my son at 38+2 weeks and he is now 11.5months old. I am 31 weeks pregnant with baby #2 and wondering if it's likely she will come earlier, like maybe 37 weeks? Also are 2nd labours usually much quicker/easier and less painful? I still remember the pain vividly and am a little scared!! I'm thinking i may go for an epi this time (i had gas/pethadeine last time)

Resolved Question: 39 weeks pregnant 1 cm dialated.?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 23:12:28 GMT)
HI, I know that everybody's pregnancy is different but i want to know your experience. I was 1 cm dilated at 37 weeks and now I'm 39 weeks 1cm and half dilated and not effaced. I wanna know if anybody had similar experience and when did they go into labor. Plus today at the appointment when my Doctor was checking me for dilation she put her fingers and stretched a little bit she said i did my best to get things started , Does that mean she stripped my memebranes I totally forgot to ask her.

Open Question: Growth scan at 37.5 weeks?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 22:30:08 GMT)
I had a growth scan today at 37 weeks 3 days pregnant and the baby is measuring at 6 lbs 4 oz. The doctor said this is fine but I can't help but think it's a bit on the small side.
For those of you who have had growth scans, what did your baby weigh and do you think 6lbs 4oz is small for 37.5 weeks?

Open Question: Dentist and pregnancy?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 22:03:33 GMT)
I just came from my dentist for a check up. My gums have been extremely swollen and sore due to pregnancy etc. The dentist wont do any xrays but for now he wants to do a detailed cleaning. I received a note from my doc saying that local anesthetic is ok. The dentist seemed kind of hesitant. im scheduled for the cleaning next week. My question is are there any pregnant women out there that had this done during pregnancy? is local anesthetic really ok? Im afraid it might affect the baby. I am 37 weeks. The dentist might issue an antibiotic, will those harm the baby? Thanks!

Open Question: nearly 38 weeks pregnant, having some issues.?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 13:51:27 GMT)
hi all can u please advise. i am attending the coombe hospital in dublin and am having a huge problem. i am 37+5 today. have been suffering with kidney infections throughout but most recently have been in quite some pain the last four days, including vomitting up what little food i do eat, strong pain in back and front, like cramps. the UTI as mentioned also. i cant walkbecause i am literally crippled within mins from baby pressure and cant drive because its uncomfortable. keep having hot baths and constantly lying down to ease all of the above. spoke to my own GP this morning and he reccomends i go to the hospital that i am "nearly 38 weeks which is perfect to induce etc as close to full term" but i refused as this hospital have before sent me home twice even when admitted on my gp letter, and its behind a joke. he then told me to ring the hospital and speak to my OBGYN and explain, i have been trying all morning, as well as himself (he twice rang). the switchboard dont take messages or leave you to a voicemail, and i am genuinely cracking up here at home. i cant seem to cope and its really giving me the blues can anyone advise or something, i feel like i am in a catch 22 situation.
and for those who seem to think i am moaning over nothing. BOTH i and my own GP have been trying to contact the OBGYN, in the hospital as is stated in my question, so your comments about " go to a gp" make no sense and also is hurtful calling me an insulting name.

Open Question: Is this early labour?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 06:30:37 GMT)
I'm 37+2 weeks pregnant and woke at 4am with abdominal pains. They feel Like menstrual cramps but aren't regular- more constantly uncomfortable and only slightly painful although they don't fade with moving position. Is there any chance this could be the start of labour? Did anyone's labour begin like this?

Open Question: How long did false labor/braxton hicks last for you?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 00:17:43 GMT)
I am due January 23rd..almost there! Ive been having braxton hicks contractions for about the past month now. They werent bad..painless but uncomfortable. My last doctors appointment was on December 30th (almost 37 weeks pregnant) and she said I was 2 cm dilated and 80% effaced. After that i decided I was going to start walking around to help things along. Since then ive been getting contractions and pressure every day and the contractions at some points got really bad. But subsided after sitting down, I went to the triage department on the 1st for a headache that wouldnt go away. She confirmed i was having contractions and when she checked me said that i was 3 cm..after another hour they sent me home with some strong tylenol because there were no further changes and she mentioned i might have not dilated any more it couldve just been the way her and my doctor checked me. I dont have another appointment until the 9th but i am now getting contractions even if i just stand up and walk around the house a little bit. Sometimes i can just be sitting and get them too..but they always go away after a while..which is very frustrating! Is anyone..or has anyone gone through this..how long did it last for you?!
Yeah my doctor mentioned sex..but thats pretty much the LAST thing on my mind. My husband is suffering i can tell ha. But on top of being so pregnant, I am getting a cold..and our 15 month old daughter keeps me busy all day. So i dont think i'll be doing that!

Open Question: 37 weeks pregnant w/ bad back pains?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 20:59:44 GMT)
I am having horrible lower back pains that sometimes runs down the butt. This is probably TMI, but I really want to go #2 but can't. I'm not sure if it is just my sciatic (sp) nerve or back labor. I have a call into my dr, but unfortunately they like to take their sweet time calling back. I know I should have changed dr's, but it is a little late for that now. Also, my grandma died last week and the funeral was today, so I have been under some stress (plus working 50 hours a week). This is my first pregnancy and don't really know what to expect for signs of labor. As of early last week I was not dilated and the dr said I still seemed pretty "thick". If anyone has any supportive advice, I would appreciate it.

Open Question: Baby's heartbeat through my belly?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 19:51:22 GMT)
I am 37 weeks pregnant, and it seems as though I can feel the baby's hearbeating through my belly....I see my stomach thumping, thats the best way I can describe it. I know that they get the hiccups but this is different, its as if my stomach is beating. I have had several normal ultrasounds but I've been very sick throughout pregnancy and this has been happening for the past two days. My next OB appt is in three days so of course I will bring this up but wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this. Thanks'

Resolved Question: Nothing more than reassurance so please answer!?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 19:13:53 GMT)
You would think I have never been pregnant but here goes. I am 14 weeks along and it has been 8 years since my last. I am 37 and just so freaked out this time. You can see by my other questions I am not handling this one very well. I don't know why, maybe it's my age I don't know. I felt so horrible the first trimester and feel great now. My other biggest concern is I was taking valium the first 2 weeks of my pregnancy because I was with my dad watching him die and I didn't know I was pregnant. I was smoking sooo much and after he died found out I was 6 weeks. Im terrified of the damage I have done, Im terrified about everything. It's going well, I have no spotting, no cramps nothing abnormal Im just freaked out. Every time something hurts I post it on here and I look like a nut case. Im even tempted to post my number to get some moral support. Im just scared and I think once I feel the baby it will all kick in. I stay at home all day so I have plenty of time to freak and I make good use of my time. If you are around 14 weeks then please just tell me it's all normal and we're in the same boat..lol Thanks for letting me freak out....
OMG I feel like I Just got 11 new best friends, thanks for the answers so far. you can im me at this same id. and I would love to hear from you all, you are great ty!

Resolved Question: Marital problems vs Pregnancy?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 17:52:53 GMT)
Im turning 37 weeks pregnant this upcoming sunday and Im starting to have real bad anxiety problems. Me and my husband are always fighting about things (money mostly). And while we were trying to de-fuse the situation, he told me over texts that everytime we fight, he gets thoughts that maybe he would be better off dating someone else. Now all of a sudden he starts shaving his chest and using cologne-based products. I told him he doesnt need to impress me, since he never had the need after we got married to do any of that stuff unless we were going out.
Is this a sign of trouble? He doesnt even really want sex now. Should I be worried? Or is this just me blowing things out of porportion due to my hormones?
The suggested dating was my part at first because he never wanted to do anything with me. He wanted to stay at home and play video games and then it would always lead to a fight. And since I was so tired of fighting, I asked him if he had thought of dating other people because he always seemed unhappy.

Open Question: 35 weeks pregnant tomorrow with big baby?
(Sun, 04 Jan 2009 21:28:58 GMT)
The baby was measured at 30 weeks and weighed 5lbs then measured again at 33 weeks and weighed 7lbs and I am wondering if with him being so big if he can throw me into labor early. which i have c sections so it doesn't matter about size. This is my 4th pregnancy and all the other kids they measured with ultrasound they were right on about. my last kid weighed 3lbs. 3ozs at 30 weeks and this baby weighs almost 2lbs more at that stage and the last baby weighed 8lbs 13ozs at 39 weeks. The docs are afraid he will throw me into early labor which is why i am hoping to make it to at least 37 weeks but if it happens by 36 weeks they won't stop me from having him only if i go into labor before 36 weeks. Just wanting to know ya'lls opinions on the chances this baby will throw me into labor early i have been having bad bh for the past 2 1/2 months and i am only 5'1 by the way so i have no room at all left.
my first kid was born at 36 weeks due to emergency and the other two were at 39 weeks were takin a week early due to c section i was actually having contractions with the last 2 when i went in
i can't go 40 weeks anyway i have c sections and they take baby at 39 weeks the latest
i have extra fluid also which is making me even bigger

Open Question: Do women with cerclages have their babies later than normal?
(Sun, 04 Jan 2009 18:08:06 GMT)
I had a cerclage at 29 weeks and Had it removed at 36 weeks, Now I'm 37 weeks and 4 days, I thought I would have had my baby immediately after the cerclage was taken, cos my doctor was almost certain that that was what would happen. I'm quite tired of being pregnant and want to go into labour like yesterday.

Open Question: I am 37 weeks pregnant and lost my mucous plug 3 days ago. I have had contractions that started 10 min apart..?
(Sun, 04 Jan 2009 02:34:17 GMT)
but now I am just having constant cramping in my stomach with random sharp pains. I have been showing signs of labor also, nesting, the baby has dropped a lot, and I have also been nauseous and had diarrhea (sorry TMI). Is this just signs of labor coming soon??? This is my first child so I do not know what to expect. Any suggestions? I call the hospital line since it is the weekend and they just make me feel like an idiot... what do you think?? My husband and I are very anxious for our lil baby boy to be here soooo soon!!!!

Resolved Question: Has anyone had an external version? (turning of breech baby?)?
(Sun, 04 Jan 2009 00:00:20 GMT)
Hello, I'm 36 weeks pregnant tomorrow, and my baby is in a transverse position. My docs told me that they are going to try an external version at around 37 weeks... my question is, When you have the version, do you deliver right after? Or do you hope that the baby stays in the head down position until 40 weeks? Thanks.
I would try all the different positions and things, however, I have something called a synechia in my uterus... like a band of tissue. It's keeping the baby in this position and the doctor is going to try and break it with the version. So really none of the activities would really help me unfortunatly.

Open Question: Is she lying about who the father really is?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 18:02:59 GMT)
My boyfriend go this girl pregnant... yeah I know, I shouldn't even be with him. but her due date is appearently March 17th. Now its my understanding that when you go to the doctor they estimate your due date by how far along you are (when you got pregnant). Which is what 40 weeks right? I remember the weekend that she had told me she got pregnant. Which was the weekend of June 29th. Because I was supposed to be with my boyfriend that weekend but he appearently had other plans.
I did the math from that weekend to the 17th of March and it only adds up to be 37 weeks. Is there actually a chance that my boyfriend isn't the father. Or is it too close to tell? I don't know. I'm loosing my mind of this.
It really wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't his. this girl is insane and very manipulative. But I don't want to hope that its not and it turns out that it is. Please, anyone who knows anything about the length of pregnacies or anything about these situations please help. desperate.

Voting Question: What does your cervix feel like when you're pregnant?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 03:36:29 GMT)
Also how far up would it be if you're 80% effaced? I'm so curious as to what it feels like and where it is. I'm 37 weeks pregnant and I know I'm 80% effaced and I wonder if I'm feeling my cervix when I put my finger in or just fooling myself.

Voting Question: Can a bladder infection make a Group B Strep test come back positive...I'm 37 weeks pregnant?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 02:54:06 GMT)
I am 37 weeks pregnant and at my dr appt today my urine came back with protein and blood in it. I have not had any other problems during pregnancy. The dr told me it was most likely a bladder infection and wanted me to start meds right away even though the culture results weren't going to be back til monday. I went to get the prescription filled and the pharmacist told me that since I was 37 weeks that it was not safe to take the medicine prescribed by the dr between 38 weeks and 42 weeks because it can cause anemia in the baby. So I am not on anything yet and my dr office was closed when I got the prescription filled. I was also tested for the Group B strep test. My question is can having a bladder infection this far along cause the Strep B test to come back positive? I have been doing Research online and I have found multiple web pages discussing the effects untreated bladder infections can have on newborns and can cause preterm labor. I am very scared and I can't talk to the dr til monday and it is currently friday. The pharmacist told me that if I get worse to go to the hospital but I didn't even have any symptoms to begin with other than the urge to pee alot. If anyone can help give me a peace of mind til I talk to the dr it would be great. Thanks!

Voting Question: Why are you encouraged to walk?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 01:10:04 GMT)
I was just reading some answers to the question about someone being 37 weeks and bleeding, and she didnt know if she was going to go into labor.
One of the answers was encouraging her to walk. What does walking do? And is this once you're ready to go? Because right now, just walking thru the mall during for Christmas shopping would hurt my stomach and make it so tight. But if its going to help bring my labor on faster in a few weeks, I'll be a walking fool! LOL
8 months pregnant

Voting Question: 37 weeks 5 days pregnant, concerned about natural birth?
(Fri, 02 Jan 2009 14:08:34 GMT)
When I was 4 months pregnant I had major liver surgery to reroute my GI system to part of my liver to constantly drain a huge liver cyst that was very painful. While it has helped the liver pain, my OB doctors have never delivered a baby for someone with this type of surgery. My surgeon had told me it was fine to have a natural birth, even with the pushing and all, BUT this was the first surgery like this he had done on a pregnant women, AND he tells me he knows so little about this condition that he is not sure where to go from here as far as follow up and maybe taking part of my liver. I have 3 children already and delivered all vaginally, but am starting to think since NOBODY seems to know the answer to is this safe to push the baby out or do I chance rupturing the cyst or the place where the intestine is attached to my liver MAYBE I should just opt for a C-section, BUT I am scared, never having one before, and this is my last child....just wondering what anyone else thinks....

Resolved Question: This doesn't make sense to me...?
(Fri, 02 Jan 2009 09:11:22 GMT)
I'm 37.5 weeks pregnant, and at my appointment on Wednesday, I was dilated 1cm and 70% effaced, but my baby hasn't dropped. My doctor actually said she was surprised by the exam because he is still so high. She actually discussed doing a c-section if he hasn't dropped within the next 10 days or so. Then this evening, I lost my mucus plug. I've heard of dilating without the baby dropping, but how can all of this be happening when he's still so high? Anyone else experience this?

Resolved Question: This may be TMI but...?
(Fri, 02 Jan 2009 08:30:01 GMT)
I'm 37.5 weeks pregnant, and am doing a 24 hour urine collection due to the fact that my urine tested +1 for protein at my appointment on Wednesday. Anyway, I lost my mucus plug today when I was going pee, and I had to put it into the collection jug with my urine. Do you think that will mess up my results in anyway, since it's not exactly something normally found in urine? Also, if you've been tested positive for protein, what were the next steps your doctor took?

Voting Question: Help please. I am 37 weeks pregnant and......?
(Fri, 02 Jan 2009 08:02:17 GMT)
Ok, I am sorry if this to graphic, but I am worried.
On Christmas Eve, my boyfriend and I where fooling around and he told me he felt something really hard. Then that Friday I started bleeding. Monday I woke up and my bed was wet, I thought maybe it was my water. I see a specialist and had him do an exam, he said I was 75% effaced and a finger dilated, but my water was still intact.
Well last night, we where fulling around again for the New Year and my boyfriend pushed my fingers inside me so I could feel what he did. I didn't have to push far when I felt the hard, baseball like shape and it pushed back. We have been told sex helps speeds up the process of labor, so we started and I swear it felt like they where playing tug of war in my vagina. It was really painful.
My questions are, should I be worried? Why hasn't my water broke? How can I help it break? Any advice? I am really scared and worried. My doctor is on vacation and her doctor who is on call keeps telling me it is my imagination.
I am 37 weeks and due January 24. I have had a lot of complications already, so any advice is helpful.

Voting Question: 34 weeks pregnant and baby won't stay still long enough for me to fall asleep!?
(Fri, 02 Jan 2009 05:49:39 GMT)
I'm 34 weeks pregnant, and as of yesterday and today the baby has started moving so much at night that I cannot get to sleep for anything. It's ok if I can ever get to sleep, when I get up to go to the bathroom I can fall back asleep ok, but just trying to sleep at night. My doc suggested taking benadryl to make me drowsy, which I've been doing for a while now, and even though it makes me drowsy, the baby keeps me awake with his kicking. Any tips? I found in my first pregnancy that having sex would calm my son down enough for me to go to sleep, but I'm on pelvic rest until 37 weeks or so.
