Open Question: Do pregnant bellies usually look flatter when lying straight on your back?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 22:55:58 GMT)
I kinda have a small belly at 38 weeks. I'm measuring in target and my baby is measuring 7 pounds in ultrasound. However, it makes me wonder how she can fit in there.
When i lie down straight on my back my belly is almost flat when the doctor is measuring my fundal height!! Does this happen to you?

Open Question: The Boppy Pillow, did you like it or not?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 22:53:01 GMT)
I plan to breastfeed and I've seen that the Boppy Pillow is recommended for it. I want to hear from other mom's that have used it. Likes/Dislikes, Pros/Cons... The pillow costs $40, so I don't want to pay that much for a pillow if it really won't be all that helpful. I'm currently 38 weeks pregnant with my first. Thanks.

Open Question: nearly 38 weeks pregnant, having some issues.?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 13:51:27 GMT)
hi all can u please advise. i am attending the coombe hospital in dublin and am having a huge problem. i am 37+5 today. have been suffering with kidney infections throughout but most recently have been in quite some pain the last four days, including vomitting up what little food i do eat, strong pain in back and front, like cramps. the UTI as mentioned also. i cant walkbecause i am literally crippled within mins from baby pressure and cant drive because its uncomfortable. keep having hot baths and constantly lying down to ease all of the above. spoke to my own GP this morning and he reccomends i go to the hospital that i am "nearly 38 weeks which is perfect to induce etc as close to full term" but i refused as this hospital have before sent me home twice even when admitted on my gp letter, and its behind a joke. he then told me to ring the hospital and speak to my OBGYN and explain, i have been trying all morning, as well as himself (he twice rang). the switchboard dont take messages or leave you to a voicemail, and i am genuinely cracking up here at home. i cant seem to cope and its really giving me the blues can anyone advise or something, i feel like i am in a catch 22 situation.
and for those who seem to think i am moaning over nothing. BOTH i and my own GP have been trying to contact the OBGYN, in the hospital as is stated in my question, so your comments about " go to a gp" make no sense and also is hurtful calling me an insulting name.

Open Question: Do I trust the medical assistant?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 06:24:06 GMT)
I'm 38 weeks pregnant, and my urine recently tested positive for protein. My doctor had be do a 24 hour urine collection for another analysis this past Friday. I called my doctor's office this morning to find out the results, and was told the medical assistant would call me back. When I hadn't heard by lunch time, I had my mom look up my file on her computer (she works for the same company as the hospital, and has access to medical records). My protein was flagged "high" with a score of 183. The "normal" rating is 50-100. Needless to say, I received a voicemail from the medical assistant in the afternoon stating that my protein was "normal". My doctor is not in the office until this Wednesday, so I know that she didn't personally review it. I'm just concerned and confused. Do you think I should print out a copy of the lab results and bring to my appointment on Wednesday? I'm just trying to figure out why she would say it was normal, when it was clearly flagged "high" in bold text? What do you think?
I am positive that these were the results of the 24 hour test, and not an earlier test. I was worried about the HIPAA thing as well, but more so about the health of my baby! I don't know what I will do! :(

Resolved Question: Almost 38 weeks pregnant?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 02:40:39 GMT)
i've been having contractions every 5-10 minutes for nearly 24 hours now.. Went to L&D and they sent me home after walking around for an hour stuck on 2 cms and 50% effaced. I'm in a horrible amount of pain.. I've tried walking, tylenol, vicoden.. everything. Nothing is helping. Is there anything I can do? My doctor won't induce me until 39 weeks.. I can't live like this for another 10 days. And i don't seem to be dilating past 2
Is it possible to break my own water? Though I'm so huge, I can't even feel my own cervix so I don't see how it'd be possible to do it
Help!
Sex is not an option is my situation.. odd question.. but would masturbation basically have the same effect?
and my ob gave me the vicodin so i'm assuming it's okay. I just hate how it makes me feel

Resolved Question: Is anyone else 38 weeks pregnant?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 20:41:49 GMT)
I am 38 weeks pregnant today, I am feeling SO anxious. I really want to see my baby. I honestly dont mind waiting another 2 weeks so I can rest and clean the house a few more times!! I just feel anxious and cant stop thinking about what he looks like and how labor will start and what it will be like. I was induced with my first baby and she was a week late, I am afraid of that happening again. I am having a lot of braxton hicks and my stomach looks like it dropped last night, I just want to know if there is anyone else that is 38 weeks and what you are feeling right now....... Thanks!
my doctor said they wont give me an exam to see if I am dilated or anything until I am 40 weeks! It seems like everyone else gets checked around 37 weeks.

Resolved Question: 38 weeks pregnant and excercising?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 19:20:45 GMT)
Do you think doing an elliptical machine at 38 weeks could help bring on labor?
I walk and stay active by cleaning the house and taking care of a 4 year old. I have an elliptical machine in my bedroom that I havent used much my entire pregnancy, I thought maybe if I started doing it again at an easy pace it might help to bring on some contractions??

Open Question: Timeable irregular contractions - braxton hicks?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 14:41:08 GMT)
I'm 34 weeks pregnant
Since around 11am (eastern time) yesterday, I have had contractions at least every 20-30 minutes. This morning I decided to write down the times I am getting them, so far it's been 9:19, 9:26 and 9:38. Are these considered irregular and braxton hicks?
I have a doctors appointment today at 3 and plan to ask then, I just wanted some input before that point.
I just wanted to add - I was able to sleep last night, so I'm not sure if they were occuring all night long, but I do know 4 times I was awoken by them and that I felt really nauseated and sick to my stomach when that happened.

Open Question: Would you talk to your doctor about induction if you had this?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 14:26:51 GMT)
Iam 38 weeks pregnant & im wanting to know if youd talk to your doctor about being induced if you were having these problems too.Not neccesarily being induced right away but like a couple days before my due date.
I have bile in my blood stream an was given meds to help.
ok....
From friday to today i have developed 5 blisters 4 in which have popped.
My body has now rejected the medicine i was given.
This is the second day ive bleed. All mucusy & that but sometimes not.Enough to need a liner/pad though. Its bright red not dried & i lost a blood clot yesterday.
Im stuck at 2cms,im having very painfull & strong contractions but cant dilate anymore. They've even been 2-4 minutes apart.
If you were me would you talk about being induced to your doctor aswell?
I went to the hospital & they said that having sex was what made me bleed.HOWEVER i didnt start bleeding REAL blood till 18 hours later.Ive NOT had sex in over 32 hours an im still bleeding.

Open Question: I am 38 weeks.... do you think that my doc will put me in the hosp tomorrow?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 05:10:27 GMT)
Ok here is the fatty, pun intended....... I am 38 weeks and 3 days pregnant, at my last appt 2 weeks ago I was 3 cm dilated and have no idea what percent if any effaced..... My doc told me that when I come back for my next appt if I were 5 cm or more that he would make me go to the hospital and he would induce me.....
With my first I was induced at 38 weeks and 4 days using pitocin, no pain meds, only one hour of hard labor and that was after he broke my water...... needless to say I have fast labors and relatively easy ones...... I am LUCKY.......
From your personal opinion do you think there is a high chance that I will be put in the hospital tomorrow??? Just looking for your personal opinion or experience, as I know none of you can really tell for sure.
Thank you and congrats on all of your bundles of joy and good luck to those of you trying

Resolved Question: what are the reasons for a small baby?
(Sun, 04 Jan 2009 23:26:12 GMT)
I am 31 weeks pregnant with #2. I dont drink, smoke or do anything that might harm my unborn baby, but my tummy is ALOT smaller with this baby than it was with my first. I remember i couldnt even bend to paint my toe nails last time and this time, sometimes i forget i'm pregnant cos i can still bend as normal and dont feel or look big. I have an appointment today so i will discuss with my midwife, but what are some reasons my baby may be smaller? Are girls generally smaller than boys? My son was 7 pound 8 when born at 38 weeks.

Resolved Question: 38 weeks pregnant and baby 2/5 enaged with arm by head?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 17:33:15 GMT)
A midwife examined me today and said that she thought the baby was 2/5 engaged, but she had a feeling that it's arm might also be by it's head. I'm a bit concerned about delivery now so was just wondering if anyone had any experience of giving birth with their baby in this position or whether anyone knows if there's any chance that the baby could pull it's arm back before delivery? Also, do you think I might be able to ask to have a scan to confirm whether or not the baby is definitely in this position?

Resolved Question: Is it safe to take a road trip with a newborn?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 17:14:23 GMT)
I am 38 weeks pregnant and he could be here any day, now. My doctor isn't letting me go past 39 weeks... so he'll be here within the next week. Anyways, my mother, boyfriend and I want to take him to Alabama to allow my family to see him while he's still so young for the weekend of January 16-19. We are traveling from Texas. This is about a 12-14 hour drive without a baby. I am breastfeeding, also, so that is supposed to give higher immunity support. I was concerned about getting in an accident, diseases, etc. I will talk to his pediatrician about this after he's born, but would like opinions from parents. :)

Resolved Question: Can anyone help me to cope with my impatience 38 weeks pregnant?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 05:35:32 GMT)
I'm 38 weeks pregnant I know and understand he'll come when the time is right. Half of me just wishes I would go into labor tonight. The sad thing about that is I'm not even having him natural due to scar tissue complications from a previous c-section. I have a scheduled c-section for the 7th. My dr. is not even in town. If I went into labor I'd have to have an emergency c-section. I'm just nesting like crazy I've packed and repacked a bag to take to the hospital. Done all the little crazy things like set up the changing table to be fully functional when we get home opened the wipes and diapers. I cooked like 4 dinners in one day and froze them for when he comes home. I'm just so eager and uncomfortable. My hips hurt like crazy I can't eat or drink to much at a time and just tired of practically living in the bathroom because he is resting on my bladder. Can anyone give me ways you coped on waiting for the little one to arrive?
It's a boy... and I'm so sorry for those of you that still have so much more time ahead of you.

Voting Question: Can a bladder infection make a Group B Strep test come back positive...I'm 37 weeks pregnant?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 02:54:06 GMT)
I am 37 weeks pregnant and at my dr appt today my urine came back with protein and blood in it. I have not had any other problems during pregnancy. The dr told me it was most likely a bladder infection and wanted me to start meds right away even though the culture results weren't going to be back til monday. I went to get the prescription filled and the pharmacist told me that since I was 37 weeks that it was not safe to take the medicine prescribed by the dr between 38 weeks and 42 weeks because it can cause anemia in the baby. So I am not on anything yet and my dr office was closed when I got the prescription filled. I was also tested for the Group B strep test. My question is can having a bladder infection this far along cause the Strep B test to come back positive? I have been doing Research online and I have found multiple web pages discussing the effects untreated bladder infections can have on newborns and can cause preterm labor. I am very scared and I can't talk to the dr til monday and it is currently friday. The pharmacist told me that if I get worse to go to the hospital but I didn't even have any symptoms to begin with other than the urge to pee alot. If anyone can help give me a peace of mind til I talk to the dr it would be great. Thanks!

Resolved Question: I didn't get any answers...sad face. :(?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 02:45:53 GMT)
Hi! I'm 38 weeks and 5 days pregnant. Yes! Anyway...I've been having Braxton Hicks all day (or painless contractions...I don't know) and back cramping all day.
The last few nights I haven't been able to sleep, restless legs really bad, and my tummy was too big to be comfy. And then I wake up super early and just have a ton of energy all day. I don't feel like cleaning though...
And today I went to the restroom and noticed my discharge was a light pink color. Mucus plug?
Maybe in labor?
ps. I've been trying to keep active like walking and going up and down stairs all day.

Voting Question: What does my dream mean?
(Fri, 02 Jan 2009 17:12:46 GMT)
im 38 weeks pregnant. (in real life)
in my dream I've had my baby but im at home already instead of at the hospital, no one will bring me my baby and i begin to freak out. i'm sitting in a bed and then everyone starts to bring me things like boxes of baby bottles and essentials, i begin to organize them while i wait for my baby to be brought to me then suddenly my sister-in-law brings in my baby in a box as well. i open the box and frantically start to do everything I've read to do right after the baby is born to bond such as make skin to skin contact and such. im trying to do a lot of things all at once and then suddenly realize that the baby im holding which i think is mine is actually a plastic baby doll. i feel horrible and im my dream i feel like a horrible mother for not realizing it before.

Resolved Question: Diarrhea during pregnancy?
(Fri, 02 Jan 2009 07:19:26 GMT)
I'm 34 weeks pregnant according to US, 38 according to cycle.
(I had my first and last ultrasound about six weeks ago, so they said it might not be accurate.)
Anyway, a couple days ago I had 10 bowel movements in one day, and it's about the same pace except it's extreme diarrhea. I'm drinking a ton of water, is this normal in your third trimester? Is it a sign of something going on? I had already lost my mucus plug on monday.

Resolved Question: Itchy belly - raised bumps?
(Fri, 02 Jan 2009 00:57:05 GMT)
I am almost 38 weeks pregnant and throughout my pregnancy I have moisturized many times a day, mainly using cocoa butter lotions. However, now my stretch marks are really bad. These last few days the itching has been unbearable and now I have raised lumps (like a rash) appearing over the top of them. I have tried my hardest not to scratch them! I have tried lotions, cocoa butter lotion, aloe vera gel and now desitin diaper rash cream. Does anyone have ANY suggestions until I can call my doctor tomorrow?
Thanks!
