Open Question: Should i do induction at 39 weeks ?
(Wed, 07 Jan 2009 00:08:45 GMT)
Today i am 39 weeks, 3 days pregnant. I have been blessed with a very good pregnancy. I have been 1 1/2 cm and 70% for about 2 weeks now, had my checkup today, and still no progress. She says she will induce whenever, but my chance for a c section will be higher the sooner i do it. She wont let me go anymore than next tuesday, which will put me at 40 weeks 4 days! i have induction scheduled for tuesday night, meaning i will deliver wed. sometime. Im thinking of doing it this weekend instead....???? i will be 40 weeks saturday, isnt that safe to say my body is ready for labor?

Resolved Question: 39 weeks pregnant 1 cm dialated.?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 23:12:28 GMT)
HI, I know that everybody's pregnancy is different but i want to know your experience. I was 1 cm dilated at 37 weeks and now I'm 39 weeks 1cm and half dilated and not effaced. I wanna know if anybody had similar experience and when did they go into labor. Plus today at the appointment when my Doctor was checking me for dilation she put her fingers and stretched a little bit she said i did my best to get things started , Does that mean she stripped my memebranes I totally forgot to ask her.

Open Question: Should I use castor oil to induce my labor?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 16:33:46 GMT)
I'm currently 39 weeks pregnant and am constantly sick and throwing up. I've lost 8 pounds in the past six days from being so sick and honestly, I'm soo done with being pregnant. My classes also start back up on the 22nd and my due date is the 13th. I'd like to have had the baby before I go back to school and I really want to spend time with my baby and rest up before jumping right back into college.
I have had no complications and the doc says the baby looks perfect. I am only one centimeter dilated and this is my first pregnancy.
I'd like to hear about everyone else's experiences with castor oil. I've tried everything else to naturally induce myself, but so far all I've gotten is Braxton Hicks.

Resolved Question: Almost 38 weeks pregnant?
(Tue, 06 Jan 2009 02:40:39 GMT)
i've been having contractions every 5-10 minutes for nearly 24 hours now.. Went to L&D and they sent me home after walking around for an hour stuck on 2 cms and 50% effaced. I'm in a horrible amount of pain.. I've tried walking, tylenol, vicoden.. everything. Nothing is helping. Is there anything I can do? My doctor won't induce me until 39 weeks.. I can't live like this for another 10 days. And i don't seem to be dilating past 2
Is it possible to break my own water? Though I'm so huge, I can't even feel my own cervix so I don't see how it'd be possible to do it
Help!
Sex is not an option is my situation.. odd question.. but would masturbation basically have the same effect?
and my ob gave me the vicodin so i'm assuming it's okay. I just hate how it makes me feel

Open Question: Did anyone else lose any weight the last couple weeks?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 19:00:30 GMT)
Hi, my pre pregnancy weight was 105 pounds, i am over 39 weeks pregnant now (due saturday) anyways at my most recent appointment my weight had dropped one pound, is that normal? I weighed 139 and i was 140, so i did gain 35 pounds (well.. 34 now) and that seems like a lot to me, so does that make that lost pound okay? my last appointment was already a week ago, i go in tomorrow, but my scale at home says my weight is still 139, is that bad? I havent lost any more but still nothing gaining either.. I thought you gained the most in the last month?
-
Open Question: normal weight gain to this point?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 18:52:52 GMT)
i know that health weight gain varies from woman to woman for each pregnancy, but im concerned with my gain.
Probably because I just gained 15 pounds with my entire first pregnancy, I was hoping for the same.
im currently 32 1/2 weeks pregnant. Prepregnancy weight was normal. Ive gained a total of about 27 pounds to this point. It feels like too much. I feel like a whale and that it will never come off. Being scheduled for a c section at 39 weeks, i have a little over 6 weeks to go.
Granted the last two weeks of holidays didnt help when it comes to packing on an extra 4 pounds this time.

Open Question: What is the real benefit of having a cervical exam to check for dilation?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 18:02:23 GMT)
I am 2 days away from being 39 weeks pregnant and today my Dr. gave me a cervical exam to check for dilation. Not only did it hurt like a B*TCH but now I am bleeding and crampy and have some vaginal pain. All I really found out was that I am 1cm dilated. What was the significance of this exam? Was it really necessary?

Open Question: Menopause or Pregnant? That is the ?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 05:04:46 GMT)
I am 39, on dec. 17th had light, brown spotting only then gone, always regular. Haven't had 1 since. No symptoms for menopause other than feeling hot at night, but husband is like an oven. Have taken HPT's all negative last week. Should I wait and see what happens when it is due again and is it possible to go straight into menopause when no signs were there?
No other family member has had early menopause. I forgot important info. I had a tubal around 9 years ago and recently read that the chances of getting pregnant go up not down. 20% chance to get pregnant. I only ever had spotting and nothing when I found out I was pregnant with my other children. But, I guess, I am trying to fill in the blanks with anyhting right now. Thank you for helping, any input is great. I'm just not sure if I should be depressed due to possibly entering meopause :O at 39 or whatever the other options may be (pregnant)

Resolved Question: Valentine's Day I'll be about 5 weeks pospartum?
(Mon, 05 Jan 2009 02:51:24 GMT)
I'm due Friday and I know I have to wait 4-6 weeks to have sex after giving birth. Hopefully I'll give birth Friday. Anyway, I'm already thinking of Valentine's day, I'd love to do something romantic for him, buy some lingerie, celebrate my no longer pregnant body. I don't know if I'll have my birth control by then, but I would definately get condoms and I guess spermicide or something just to make sure because I know after birth you're extremely fertile. How long did you wait to have sex again? Do you think 5 weeks is too soon? Will it hurt a lot to have sex after giving birth? Thanks! *39 weeks*

Open Question: 35 weeks pregnant tomorrow with big baby?
(Sun, 04 Jan 2009 21:28:58 GMT)
The baby was measured at 30 weeks and weighed 5lbs then measured again at 33 weeks and weighed 7lbs and I am wondering if with him being so big if he can throw me into labor early. which i have c sections so it doesn't matter about size. This is my 4th pregnancy and all the other kids they measured with ultrasound they were right on about. my last kid weighed 3lbs. 3ozs at 30 weeks and this baby weighs almost 2lbs more at that stage and the last baby weighed 8lbs 13ozs at 39 weeks. The docs are afraid he will throw me into early labor which is why i am hoping to make it to at least 37 weeks but if it happens by 36 weeks they won't stop me from having him only if i go into labor before 36 weeks. Just wanting to know ya'lls opinions on the chances this baby will throw me into labor early i have been having bad bh for the past 2 1/2 months and i am only 5'1 by the way so i have no room at all left.
my first kid was born at 36 weeks due to emergency and the other two were at 39 weeks were takin a week early due to c section i was actually having contractions with the last 2 when i went in
i can't go 40 weeks anyway i have c sections and they take baby at 39 weeks the latest
i have extra fluid also which is making me even bigger

Open Question: 39 weeks pregnant & 60% effaced?
(Sun, 04 Jan 2009 01:10:59 GMT)
I'm 39 weeks pregnant & I went to the doctor on christmas eve & i wasn't dilated or effaced but I went to the doctor yesterday (I have weekly appts) & she said that im 60% effaced but not dilated. I was just wondering how long people were effaced for before they went into labor. My doc said that not all woman dilate with their first child. Do u think i'll be going into labor soon?
I been sick since on new years eve so i havent been feeling good & my stomach has been feeling pressure & diarreah pains today. i have bronchitis & have been feeling naushous the past few days so im not sure if my stomach is hurting from being sick or the start of labor
My due date is Jan 10th (7 days from now)

Resolved Question: Is it ok to use an expired can of tomato soup for spaghetti?
(Sun, 04 Jan 2009 00:59:47 GMT)
I'm 39 weeks pregnant, my father is a chef and he said I could use the can as long as it isn't dented, on the can it says recommend to use by date on can which is October 2007. I know my father would rather die than possibly harm me and his first granddaughter, but I'm still unsure. We only have an 8oz can of tomato sauce because my genious bf put the opened jar of Ragu back in the cabinet after we used some (because according to him if it's on the shelf in the grocery store, it doesn't need to be refridgerated-ugh I'm so mad) and now it's molded and in my trash can! The 8 oz can isn't enough for the spaghetti, and I want to supplement it with the soup, but do you think it's ok? Thanks.
Yes, he won't be doing that again, we just ordered Italian...my spaghetti probably wouldn't come out good anyway I'm not Italian. I don't want to take the chance, so I threw it out. Thanks!

Resolved Question: Is it safe to take a road trip with a newborn?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 17:14:23 GMT)
I am 38 weeks pregnant and he could be here any day, now. My doctor isn't letting me go past 39 weeks... so he'll be here within the next week. Anyways, my mother, boyfriend and I want to take him to Alabama to allow my family to see him while he's still so young for the weekend of January 16-19. We are traveling from Texas. This is about a 12-14 hour drive without a baby. I am breastfeeding, also, so that is supposed to give higher immunity support. I was concerned about getting in an accident, diseases, etc. I will talk to his pediatrician about this after he's born, but would like opinions from parents. :)

Open Question: My life as a baby name game?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 15:32:22 GMT)
Want to play a baby name game? The twist is that it's modeled on my own life.
1) You are twenty years old and desperately trying for a child. You conceive fairly easily and are delighted to find out that you are expecting a baby girl. She is born in February in a local hospital and has light brown hair and mesmerizing blue eyes. You name her something a bit old fashioned.
2) Your little princess is three and you are not trying for another baby yet but you find out that you are pregnant on the 3rd of January. You have a difficult pregnancy and there are serious complications from some wine you had on New Year's Eve. You are confined to a hospital room at 20 weeks and go into labour at 28 weeks and your baby girl is incredibly tiny at 2lbs 3oz. She has to stay in the intensive care unit for another 20 weeks and it breaks your heart. She has blonde, puffy hair and blue eyes like her sister, you choose a popular girly name for her.
3) It is two years since your last child was born and you have gotten used to life with two children, you have a good flexible job as a reporter and have never been happier. You decide the time is right to try for another baby. You conceive easily and at 12 weeks are shocked to find out that it's triplets! At 32 weeks you give birth to three healthy babies, two girls and a boy. The first girl has straight blonde hair and brown eyes, the second has light brown hair and deep blue eyes and the boy has curly, dirty blonde hair and hazel eyes. You give them traditional first names and one-syllable middles.
4) You have your hands full with five children but your husband is desperate for another boy to play with so you decide to try for one more child. You have a bit of trouble conceiving but eventually you find out the exciting news. At the twelve week scan your doctor reveals that you are expecting twins! It is an uneventful pregnancy and you carry your twins to 39 weeks, in August you give birth to gorgeous boy/girl twins. The boy has little golden tufts of hair and greyish blue eyes and the girl has midnight black hair and green eyes. You name them something modern sounding.
So, did you like it?
Oh yeah, sure. My kids names are;
1) Georgina Alexandra
2) Emily Paige
3) Sofianna Lynn, Cassandra Belle and Owen Lloyd
4) Harvey Nicholas and Isabella Lucy

Resolved Question: when am I supposed to lose my muscus plug?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 04:37:15 GMT)
I am 39 weeks and 3 days pregnant and I was wondering when do I lose it?
When I go the bathroom, I go and I feel like an air bubble come out(tmi, sorry) and but I don't see the glob that I hear about. I do have a discharge that is thick and milky colored that just look like dried lotion on my underwear.
Am I supposed to lose it soon?
I do feel some cramping down there and every once in a while I feel like I am on my peroid (mild cramping, extreme gas, diaherria, mild headaches and lack of energy).
Thanks

Resolved Question: What is happening to me?
(Sat, 03 Jan 2009 01:25:26 GMT)
I am about 39 weeks pregnant and for the last hour I have been getting a painful twinge in my pelvis, on the side my baby is on that occurs once every ten to twenty minutes. I also have pain in my back and side about every twenty minutes. What should I do?? Is this labor? My hospital is thirty minutes away so the sooner someone can let me know the better!

Resolved Question: ways to avoid being on welfare? I am 39 weeks pregnant and the father claims to want to help?
(Fri, 02 Jan 2009 23:03:47 GMT)
Now, I am due soon and I don't want to be on welfare cause
1) it depressing, I hate having to wait for this or that to come in just so I can get more food or have cash that was given for no work.
2) I dislike social workers simply because they do a half ass job (they believed a lie about my father and took us away from him).
3)lack of freedom. Gotta follow their rules and have this and that.
4) its an overused system in my opioin being abused by so many (like father who has no children but getting foodstamps)
If I get a job soon after I give birth, go back to school can I avoid being caught up in the system?
I know it seems weird but I hate depending on the government cause I am so use to earning my own money.
Thanks
Btw , I am 23 years old and have 3 more semesters of schooling left before I move on to my major.

Voting Question: I am 39 weeks pregnant tommorrow and have GD!!?
(Fri, 02 Jan 2009 21:43:06 GMT)
I am very worry about my gestational diabetes bcuz of the baby's size and weight. My sugars levels are not being too well during the last couple weeks and my doctor does'nt want to inducce me, because according to her knowledge my baby is not even that big, she only determ this, by feeling my belly,at 37 weeks. but he meassured 6 pounds at 34 weeks!! and my doc doesn't even want to schedule me for another ultrasound and want me to go in labor on my own, even though I am only 3 centemiters dialeted, and had a previous induccion, because I was a week past my due date. I need good advises based on you experiences please!!!!

Voting Question: will the midwife offer me a sweep at 40 + 5 days?
(Fri, 02 Jan 2009 21:37:49 GMT)
I am currently 39 weeks pregnant, baby is head down and 3/5ths engaged. I am not happy with the due date the midwife is using but she wont listen to me.
My dates by all my scans are 3rd January, although they are using the dates from my last period which gives a due date of 8th January, which i know isn't accurate, but she wont listen to me and works of the 8th January.
Anyway, i am so uncomfortable, my next appointment is a week and a half away but my notes state a sweep will not be offered until my 41 week appointment. Do you think if i insist at my next appointment she will give me a membrane sweep when i will be 40 weeks and 5 days, or will she make me wait till the next appointment when i will be 41 weeks and 5 days?

Resolved Question: Why isn't our daughter being born naturally?
(Fri, 02 Jan 2009 18:48:43 GMT)
We have one daughter. She is now 4. When she was born she had to be induced. She was not born naturally. She went ALL the way until 42 weeks until the doctors had no choice but to perform an inducing. Basically my wife is pregnant again. She is 39 weeks (40 tomorrow) and labor still hasn't started. She is wanting it to come naturally now. She tried sex, brisk excersing and everything else. Nothing has worked. SO far it's day after day with no signs of labor. I am pretty sure this'll lead again to 40-42 weeks and then be forced to induce. I have read inducing is bad. Why is it that labor sometimes does not happen naturally but sometimes it does. If this one is induced then that is the second child that would not come naturally. Why is it that sometimes the baby will come on there own but sometimes they won't? What would happen (technically) if the mother refused to be induced..would the baby keep going and going and going until they both died..or is it FACT that the baby would come naturally when it was ready..this is very strange.
That was 39 weeks not 39 years old. She is only 23 years old right now.
Everytime they have checked recently it was one cenimeter. It has been about a week or so since she had her last check. She has an appointment this upcoming week (friday) So I am guessing we'll find out if it's changed then.

Voting Question: What should I do about my new husband's angry outbursts?
(Fri, 02 Jan 2009 03:08:18 GMT)
Please help me, I don't know what to do.
Four months ago, I married a wonderful man after knowing him for a very short time (a few months). We were certain we were right for each other and found out shortly before the wedding that we were expecting a baby. I never saw any signs of his terrible temper until the day before the wedding when he got angry at his brother at threw a gas can at him. Since then, the outbursts have been fairly regular. I realize the wedding, the baby, me moving in to his apartment, his having a hard time finding work, etc., is stressful, but we're both dealing with lots of changes to our lives - not just him.
To make a long story short, when he blows his stack, it's ugly. He calls me the "b" word, swears (says the "f" word constantly) and yells, says very mean things, storms around or storms out of the apartment.
I've been supporting him since we were married four months ago - he is trying to get his greencard and can't work at this time. So, I'm paying for everything. I also paid off about $8000 in debt that he didn't tell me about and I've paid for all of his immigration stuff. He does most of the cooking (dinner) but I do everything else, and sometimes it doesn't ever seem like I'm doing enough or that anything I do is good enough. In our last argument, he had the nerve to tell me that all I do is "sit on my ass". Today, he's been upset all day because I asked his to help me with the vacuuming and he felt like I was "commanding" his to do things. Tonight he got angry because there was some turkey in the fridge that went bad and he ate it - he felt it was my fault. He was yelling again, and said "we have the only marriage in history where a wife can't make an "f''ing" plate of dinner for her husband!!!" Bear in mind, I six figure income, have been supporting him and am seven months pregnant. I worry that the stress of supporting us, being pregnant, all the changes in my life, PLUS his regular outbursts are going to affect the baby. Most of the time, he's the best husband in the world. Sometimes it's a few days between outburst, sometimes its a few weeks. But it really knocks me for a loop. I've never been called names, sworn at, etc., by a man. I don't know what to do. My life was wonderful before I married him. I thought it would be even better after we were married. Most of the time it's pretty great but his anger scares me and hurts me and his outbursts leave my head spinning for days at a time. (For the record, he's never hit me). I just want a normal life again. I asked him to attend anger management classes - he went twice and didn't go back because he said we couldn't afford it (mind you, I'M PAYING FOR IT). He's also said we can't afford counseling. What should I do?
I'm 39 years old, educated, financially secure and have lived a comfortable, happy, fairly normal life. But I have no idea what to do about this. Is this what I should expect from marriage? Is this typical? Have I made a terrible mistake or should I try and stick it out?

Voting Question: how long after a pelvic exam do you spot for?
(Thu, 01 Jan 2009 22:07:18 GMT)
I had a normal pelvic exam yesterday. I am 39 weeks pregnant tomorrow. 7 hours later I had a pink glob on the toilet paper. I was wondering if the pink glob would have been brown from the exam 7 hours earlier (brown usually means old blood). Then later (about 19 hours after the exam) another glob but this one was brownish. Is this all from the exam or could it be bloody show? Also, my doc confirmed that I do not have my mucous plug anymore she said that about a week ago at another exam- I dont know if this makes a difference in the show or not. Anyone know?

Voting Question: Heartbeat is kinda funky?
(Thu, 01 Jan 2009 20:33:50 GMT)
I'm 39 weeks pregnant, and I was found to have some kind of stress (or something) on my heart about 6 weeks ago, but since we were getting ready to move (PCS - husband in Army) they decided not to do any tests past an EKG.
Now we're at our other base, and I am still having this heart rate issue. My resting heart rate goes from 75 to 138 in a matter of 10 to 15 seconds, stays there for different periods of time and then goes back down to the 70's and 80's for a minute or so before doing it all over again. This happens all day long and is really affecting my breathing, my comprehension and other things that I need.
They listened to my heart through stethescope and said that it is not a common pregnancy condition because my heart rate doesn't stay up, but fluctuates and nearly reaches the baby's heart rate.
I know I should probably put this in the pregnancy section, but since they said it had nothing to do with my pregnancy, I'm just wondering if I should be concerned and if it could affect the baby.
(The symptoms I have when my heart rate is elevated were present before I was pregnant, but I am 20 years old and never thought that something could happen to my heart at such an early age. So this has been going on since before pregnancy.)
Any kind of input would be nice. I'm awaiting a call from a cardiologist's office for an appointment next week, but I'm afraid that it could affect my baby and cause a rough delivery for us since I am due next Thursday.

Voting Question: Sorry for the graphics...labor?
(Thu, 01 Jan 2009 15:12:45 GMT)
**This has question may be considered TMI**
I am 39.5 weeks pregnant. A week and a half ago, I was 1-2cm dilated. I have had pretty frequent, yet random BH contractions the last few days. I have been constipated for the last month or so, until this morning. I had a very large bowel movement. Is this a sign of labor about to start? Or just coincidence?

Resolved Question: 39+4weeks pregnant, experiencing sharp pains in lower abdomen and vagina ... what is this?
(Thu, 01 Jan 2009 11:06:02 GMT)
I am 39 + 4 weeks pregnant, i lost my mucus plug over a week ago and for the last couple of days have been experiencing horrendous backache coming and going along with sharp shooting pains in the lower abdomen area and vaginal area. They seem to be coming more regular as time goes on, occasionally interrupting my sleep but don't last a set amount of time. Some last for quite a while and others only a few seconds.
This is my first pregnancy, so i am unsure of what this pain is. Could it be the start of labour?
