Open Question: Is it uncomfortable for babies in the womb once they get too big to move around?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 19:52:44 GMT)
I'm 35 weeks pregnant but my girl seems to squirm around a lot still. She no longer kicks me but she will jab me with what feels like either a hand, foot or elbow.
I got a 4d ultrasound not long ago and she looked so scrunched up and cute..but it makes me wonder if she's uncomfy in there.
What do you think?
She also seems to move to the side of my belly a lot. It makes my belly looked deformed! Is this normal?

Open Question: When would be the best time to get a puppy?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 19:41:18 GMT)
My dog of 13 years passed away two days ago and for a long time I've been thinking about getting another dog (probably a pug) but I'm 12 weeks pregnant (due late Sept) and I don't know whether it would be best to get the puppy now, or to wait a while after the baby is born...
** I have my nieces who are 2 and 7 a lot, so (s)he would be around children before the baby is here a fair bit.
** I've never not had a dog, I've always had at least one so I think it will be really weird to not have one around for x amount of time.
What are your thoughts? Get one now or wait for however long after the baby is born to get one?
Thanks :)

Open Question: is this safe for my pregnant hamster?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 19:39:11 GMT)
my hammie is pregnant and i have a little hanging pouch in her cage like ferrets like to play in. it's for hamsters too and i have it hanging in her cage about 3 1/2 inches off the ground of her cage. she likes to climb on top of the pouch instead of in it, (she thinks she can get high enough to escape out of her tank lol). the top of it is probably 8 inches off the ground and she climbs on top trying to get out and will fall off it onto the ground of her tank. she is 12 days into her pregnancy and i am wondering if that is too far of a fall for her. she's got about 3-4 inches of bedding in her tank so it's not a hard fall but im afraid it might hurt the babies being so far into her pregnancy. i've been keeping it up out of reach the last 2 days, but it makes me feel bad because she really likes playing with it but im afraid it might hurt her babies..am i doing the right thing? and if i should keep it out of reach should i leave it that way until the babies are two weeks old just in case she falls off of it and lands on a baby? personal opinions please? much appreciated.

Open Question: How to cope with anxiety/panic about past events?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 19:33:23 GMT)
I am currently 21 weeks pregnant and suffering from panic/anxiety in response to negative thoughts about past events. The events feel like they are in the present and violate my sense of relationship security and stability. They thoughts upset my ability to trust my partner and feel comfortable with him even though I accept that these things are in his past. The thoughts are very vivid and upsetting. Most of the time, I am able to brush these thoughts off and continue with my day but at times, they cause my stomach to knot up, my chest tightens, my heart races and my head will not quiet itself. I want to enjoy my pregnancy more and give less attention to these negative thoughts and episodes of panic. Does anyone have any advice as to how to stop or lessen how bad this feels? Is it normal to feel so anxious/nervous during pregnancy about non-baby/parenting things?
I'm currently in counseling and although it has helped a lot, I'm still having the sudden bouts of panic.
Any help is very much appreciated.

Open Question: compensation payout for accident?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 19:24:28 GMT)
I was in a car accident (passenger), we got hit head on by another driver which wrote off both our cars. I was 38 weeks pregnant and started leaking amniotic fluid for a week before my waters broke, after a failed induction due to the premature rupture I had an emergency c section. Further births will now also end this way. I also suffered whiplash, eye infection from the dust of the airbag, post traumatic stress disorder and anxiety which has lead to back and neck problems. I've never been in this position before and am awaiting legal advice. What sort of compensation level can we hope for. I'd rather of had a normal birth and be healthy but if you have to look at the positives then this is all I can hope for at the moment. Thanks

Open Question: ectopic pregnancy at 7 weeks?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 19:11:31 GMT)
Hi, I'm nearly 7 weeks pregnant with my first baby, i'm 30 years old and am becoming really worried about this pregnancy being ectopic.
I was on the mini pill just before becoming pregnant and over the last few days i've noticed that I have a pain in abdomen when I go to the loo. I have felt the cramping feeling in my uterus since finding out i was pregnant, which I'm thinking will mean if ligaments are stretching, then the baby should be attached to the right place?? I don't have any constant or severe pain in my tummy at all or any pain in my shoulder or any type of bleeding which I've read are other symptoms.
I don't want to be over-reactive, I'm worried that if I call the Dr's they'll tell me that i'm imagining it, or being over-reactive. I've also noticed today that my nausea isn't as bad as it's been previously, i'm not sure if this is relevant or not.
I'm finding this all so overwhelming and just want to do the right thing.
Any advice??

Open Question: Either my waters broke/leaking or I have the pregnant crazies...?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 19:04:12 GMT)
I am 36 weeks and 5 days pregnant.
Last night I was lying on the couch and felt some water come out onto my leg/crotch area. It wasn't watery-like discharge, it definitely felt just like water and had no smell or color. I stood up and some more trickled out and trickled out all the way to the bathroom but never gushed or seemed like it was for sure my water breaking like in the movies. (sorry this is getting long) I went to bed lastnite since it had stopped leaking for a while and I was woken up this morning with some more trickling down my leg and in my underwear. Now this morning I haven't really had any more significant leaking, just a tiny bit here and there.
The only catch, that is making it hard for me to figure what to do, is that I have been using EPO (evening primrose oil) inserted at night to help my cervix thin/efface for about 12 days. I couldn't tell this morning if I was leaking only EPO or if there was more amniotic fluid, BUT lastnite when it trickled out the first time I had not put any EPO in yet.
Also, I have been having and increased amount of dull low backache and painless braxton hicks type contractions since right before this all started lastnite.
SO, did my water break, am I leaking, or is it something else totally different and I am just officiallyy crazy from being pregnant so long?
* Sorry that was really long. I know that I can/should call my doctor or L&D but I wanted some opinions before I do since I am waiting for my Husband to come home first.

Open Question: When did you start to show in your first vs. second pregnancy?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 19:00:16 GMT)
I am one of those women who just seem to show really early on in pregnancy.
With my daughter, I had a belly at 10 weeks. Strangers could tell I was pregnant by 14 weeks and by 18 weeks I was unmistakeably pregnant.
Well now I am pregnant with baby #2 and I will be 7 weeks tomorrow. I feel like I am already showing. I know this is just bloat since the baby is the size of a seed at this point, but I honestly already have a belly. I love the baby bump but right now I feel like I look like I'm just fat. I know second pregnancies show sooner but this seems crazy.
So when did you ladies show with your first vs. second vs. third, etc?
Thanks!

Open Question: My pregnant girlfriend left me two months ago, I want her back so bad, do you think she does too?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 18:49:36 GMT)
My ex and I dated for abut a year, and towards the last four months of the relationship things got kind of bitter and ugly. There is no doubt that we didn't love each other. The problem is we were so nuts for each other, but we just fell apart at the end. After we broke up we soon found out she was pregnant. Things changed, we tried it again, and then things were going good. I've kind of been a "new" person since finding out I'm going to be a father.
I was really trying, and we were having a lot of fun. The problem is I cheated on her one time early on in the relationship. NO excuses, I MESSED UP. I know I did, and I know things weren't always great, but I do LOVE her. So she got thinking about how I did that and among other things, she got real upset and stopped calling, and starfted avoiding me. She eventually got to the point, she wanted to go through the pregnancy on her own and wants me to be a father figure to the child, but doesn't want a relationship with me.
Since then I've been so devastated. That was a couple months ago, she stopped calling all together and I let her be, she needed space. We went three weeks without a single conversation, and two days ago was the first time I had physically seen her in five weeks. I'm doing really well at work, and am making good money again. I just finished my best month and am on pace to have an even better month.
We had a convo on Monday when I came over to help her get her cat to vet to get declawed. We had a nice conversation, but she made it very clear again she didn't want me. She would try to get close though and if I pulled my leg away from touching hers, she would position herself to where our bodies were touching. She would call me babe, and I am just so in LOVE with her. She's 21 weeks pregnant, and looks so cute. She hasn't gained a pound and has a little baby in her. She is such a pretty girl and is glowing, I am so attracted to her.
Today we went to the hostpiatl to find out what the sex was. I brought her a hot chocalate and you'd think that had made her morning! When we went into the sonogram room as soon as the sonogam showed the baby moving around I got teary eyed and grabbed her hand. She held my hand and squeezed back and we're going to have a baby boy. I kissed her on the cheek and said congrats. We walked out together to my car and she got in to get warm. We talked and she said again that she doesn't want to be with me. But when she got out she kissed me on the cheek and said bye baby.
I'm confused. I just want to be a happy family. I think it's so amazing I'm having a boy. I've always waited for this moment. I want her and I to fall more in love and learn to get a long better while raising the kid. However, I want what's best for the kid and her. I'd do anything to make it work, however I don't know what's going on with her.
What do you think? If you were pregnant with your boyfriends baby, wouldn't you at least want to try your hardest to make it work. I'm so depressed I feel like I'm missing out on so much, and I just want to take care of her.
First Paragraph: Meant to say: "there is no doubt that we loved each other."

Open Question: late period and strange discharge?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 18:46:39 GMT)
i am on the contraceptive patch and last month i stupidly forgot to take it off for my "week's break" and to have my period. so i didn't have 1 at all last month. I've took off my patch this week as normal and usually within 3 days i come on my period but that hasn't happened, instead iv got this strange thick discharge, which doesn't smell pleasantent. I have never had this before so i am wondering what it is. Would you get this strange discharge if you were pregnant?

Open Question: Should I break up with my girlfriend?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 18:40:48 GMT)
So, about a week and a half ago I found out that my girlfriend had been lying to me about taking birth control. When I found out I went ballistic on her and walked out. I sat in my car for about half an hour (her thinking I had driven off) and then had come back. We talked and she told me that even though she had lied about everything and in the end it was essentially her fault, she would do everything in her power to make me pay the maximum child support and then she would move away so I couldn't see my kid, also she told me that she couldn't tell me the truth because she was embarrassed that she couldn't afford the bill for birth control (even though I told her prior that I'd pay for it regardless of the price). So, I've come down to the conclusion that she is either just plain stupid for not telling me, or she was trying to trick me into getting her pregnant (seeing as how Im in the military and she could take advantage of all my benefits). She loves me so she says, but I'm starting to question what her version of love it. Should I break up with her now that I found out today she's for sure not pregnant? Or should I not break up with her out of love?
On a side note, 2 months after we started dating she's told me that she wants a kid regardless of me not wanting one. I've stayed with her since then because I love her, but this I think has just taken it to another level. it's been 5 weeks from the day I went inside her and we've taken about 8 pregnancy tests that all popped up negative including going to a doctor and him confirming that she's not pregnant.

Open Question: 3rd Trimester questions about weight gain & other "fun" stuff :)?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 18:40:47 GMT)
HI ladies! I am 32 weeks pregnant with my 1st baby! Due May 2nd! This pregnancy has been really good to me meaning no sickness or pains really! Our son is measuring 3 weeks big but they are keeping my due date b/c it was confirmed at a 7 week ultrasound. At 28 weeks he was already 3lbs 11oz. I have another 1 this Friday to see how much he weighs!
So Lately I have been feeling really tired! I work 8-5 & about 2 everday I hit a wall & get so tired! I guess thats normal though! I have minor swelling in my ankles but nothing a stranger would really even notice. I feel fat & had a question about weight.....how much did you gain by month 8th? Im up to almost 35lbs already! I know I dont eat as healthy as I should but I do try to do cardio at least 3 days a week (usually only for 30 mins) just walking or the elyptical. I started at 135 & was just under 170 at my last appt. I keep reading post where women only gained like 20 by now and I am wondering if I am the only one who put on 35!!
Also I have been getting these sharp pains in my breasts....not all the time maybe a few times a day...is this normal? They already went up 2 sizes!
1 last thing.....I feel like I have to go to the bathroom all the time! I do drink alot of water (I crave it!!) & i was checked for a UTI & dont have 1. Dr. said its b/c the baby is squishing the bladder so only a little bit can make it feel full! Any1 else have this??
Just wondering if these things I'm going though are normal & if anything 1 else has them!! Hope ur pregnancy is going well :)

Open Question: Can my OB safely cut through my placenta during my cesarean? HELP?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 18:33:39 GMT)
I'm 31 weeks pregnant, and am having a repeat, scheduled cesarean at the very beginning of May, at 39 weeks. I have an anterior placenta, and I had an ultrasound (because I have gestational Diabetes) that showed it started from above my belly button, and covers my cesarean scar. So my doctor is going to have to cut through it to get the baby out. Is this safe? Are there more complications that can happen because of this? Is it common for this to happen? Has anyone ever had this happen, and if so, what was your experience? I really need some answers please! Thank you!
When I asked him, he said, "I'll just cut through it, you'll lose a little bit more blood".

Open Question: Pregnancy and Morning/Afternoon/Night Sickness?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 18:29:16 GMT)
Hey everyone,
I'm 7.5 weeks pregnant and I just started being nauseous in the afternoons and at night. Everyone talks about morning sickness, but I haven't or at least I haven't yet. Is there actually such a thing as afternoon and night sickness? Why does this happen? I'm avoiding all the foods I'm supposed to, but I keep throwing up what I eat (or at least half) later. I want our baby to have anough nutrients and be healthy.

Open Question: Wife won't accept son comes before her??
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 18:26:32 GMT)
We've been married since October, she has an 18yr old son and I ahve a 19yr old. We discovered she was pregnant jsut before the wedding and I was happy as my ex wife wouldn't have more kids with me.
Her son went to live with her parents as he used to hit her (he was later diagnosed with depression due to his father trying to kill him and my wife). My son was going to live with me until he finishes his course this May then move to his mums (we have a tiny 2bed house).
Because my son goes to college part time and its not a degree or higher education I get tax credits & child benefit for him. As he's only just turned 19 I found I can keep getting them if he decides to do an extra year. So for financial reasons I want him to stay with me, also the fact that he is my only family & I adore him. My wife suggested we get a bigger house but I said no to start with - because theres not enough room I thought it best she move out and we live together when my son decides to leave home. My wife was unhappy so I said I may consider a 3bed - but now she says no as it means I will claim the tax credit and child benefit for the baby. Due to the fact that I willl get more for my son (he's the first child) I told her she'd have to make up the difference to match how much I get for my son out of her money.
My wife wants us to be a family but I can't as my first responsibility is to my son - he could go to his mums but he is my only family and I don't want to upset him.
I'm going on holiday on my own when my wife will be 32 weeks pregnant (I need to go and lie on a beach and get away from everything as I'm depressed). My wife said it'd be over if I went but I think she was angry.
Obviously my son is looking forward to having the house to himself when I'm away and having friends around. I hope my wifes house is ready then, or she can stay with family. She feels that this is teaching my son to disrespect her. She thinks that if I'm going on holiday alone, and turf her out then he will know that she isn't a permanent fixture and has no rights. I don't see it this way. I'm prepared now to look for a 3bed house but my wife has now said that she won't live with my son if she is turfed out while I go on holiday and because she doesn't want our child to grow up with our child seeing that she comes below my son. This is ridiculous - my son is my life and I've only been with her for a short time - I can't put her first.
How do I get her to see that he is my priority?????

I'm prepared now to look for a 3bed house but my wife has now said that she won't live with my son if she is turfed out while I go on holiday and because she doesn't want our child to grow up with our child seeing that she comes below my son. This is ridiculous - my son is my life and I've only been with her for a short time - I can't put her first.
How do I get her to see that he is my priority?????

Open Question: Can you ovulation then not have a period?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 18:21:43 GMT)
am currently 22 weeks pregnant with triplets girl-girl-boy. But my sister in law is trying to have kids and she is on clomid like I was when I conceived. She said they saw two eggs release and 14 days after ovulation she did not get her period but the blood hcg was negative. The doctor did say it could be to early too. I told her it could be too early because you always get your period 14-16 days after ovulation. the doctor told her she did ovulate because her progesterone went up. I don't know what to tell her. and how is eevery onespregnancies? I am so tired all the time....

Open Question: My son is my life???????
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 18:19:52 GMT)
Open Question: 32 weeks pregnant.. normal to be afraid if something wrong with baby when born?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 18:15:56 GMT)
I will be a first time mom. I'm 32 weeks pregnant. Is it normal to be nervous or afraid if my baby will turn out funny or werid looking? I know ultrasounds can only do soo much. But is it normal to think "what if my baby will turn out funny looking or born with one eye or born deaf or born with the werid lip or nose or born with something on his face?" . I guess i've been TV.. but I have that fear and i just want a normal healthy baby., I'm afraid he will be born unhealthy or with 6 fingers. is this normal thinking at all?

Open Question: Pregnant? I wish I knew!?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 18:13:43 GMT)
I stopped my birth control one week from today. So, last wednesday. The past three days I have been feeling very tired (feeling like I have to take a nap at lunch break) and eating more. i track my calories very closely so I know when I eat 300-400 calories more a day. And the past three days- I have been feeling the need or urge to eat more- I cant seem to eat or sleep enough.
Yesterday, I had the clear stringy discharge- but with strains of red blood in it.
We have unprotected sex this saturday and on Monday night. Is it possible I'm already pregnant?

Open Question: How long after conception can doctors tell if you are pregnant or not?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 18:11:38 GMT)
I'll try to make a long story short here, My girlfriend and I have been together for almost a year but we live far apart and only get to see each other very little. I love her to death and it's not that I don't trust her its that I dont trust ANYONE. Anyways we didn't see each other for a couple of months until the weekend after Valentines day because distance and weather. So we slept together that weekend, the next weekend I didn't see here at all and then this past weekend we slept together again. Now here it is Wed. Just a few days short of four weeks last night she took a couple of tests because she had been feeling funny and she hasn't had her period yet which is almost now a week late. I wasn't there but she said the tests were inconclussive. She couldn't tell for sure but thought they were saying she was pregnant. She went to the dr's who gave her a test and said that she was preg and schedualed an appointment with an OBGYN So is it possible the kid is mine? I mean it's only been 3.5 weeks since we slept together so could the test both home and doctor given be accurate?

Open Question: I REALLY need some answers, about a repeat cesarean and placenta location?!?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 18:07:22 GMT)
I'm 3 weeks pregnant, and am having a repeat, scheduled cesarean at the very beginning of May, at 39 weeks. Thank you!
See, but my OB said, and I quote, "I'll just cut through it, you'll lose a little bit more blood", when I asked how he was going to perform the cesarean with my placenta in the way.

Open Question: Wishing to have another baby?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 18:03:49 GMT)
We are wanting to have another baby, I had a miscarriage back in December I was 19 weeks along. We were wanting to try again in May, but we had some unprotected sex a couple weeks ago (the beginning of March) around the time I ovulated. I wouldn't mind being pregnant a little earlier than we had planned, but I'm worried at the same time. I have been achy in my lower tummy and lower back, kind of feels like mild period cramps, and feeling a little queasy on and off as well as feeling very sleepy.

Open Question: How much of a chance is there that I'm pregnant??? Please help...?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 18:01:32 GMT)
I've been on Yasmin (higher dosage of Yaz) for about two and a half months now. I was on it before, but I got my refills a month late so I had to start again. On sunday my boyfriend and I had sex (stupidly without a condom) because we felt safe enough with just the birth control. However, I did some research when I got home and found out that since I don't take my birth control pill at the EXACT same time every day (sometimes it's a few hours later, or even later that night) it reduced the effectiveness to 80%. Now...I researched Yasmin some more and some updated info said that if I forgot to take my pill at the same time...I would still be protected from becoming pregnant for a day. Also, I took the morning after pill Norlevo on Tuesday, so within 48 hours of having sex. I'm still really worried though, and I was wondering if anyone had any idea how much of a chance there could be that I'm still pregnant? We had sex the first day of the third week of my birth control pack....(exactly one week before the placebo pills).
Thanks so much. I know it seems silly that I feel so relieved now, but just hearing that makes me feel better. Sex isn't worth being this scared...

Open Question: Weight gain - NOT impressed!?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 17:59:44 GMT)
I will be 7 weeks pregnant tomorrow. I'm my opinion, I am BARELY pregnant at this point.
I have already gained 4-5lbs! I have not changed a THING with my eating habits, honestly.
I had the same issue with my daughter. I gained 8lbs in the first trimester, despite eating the same and still exercising. However, I thought for sure this wouldn't happen AGAIN because I still have 10lbs left on me from that pregnancy so I figured that would make up the extra weight I had gained so rapidly in the beginning the first time around.
This just sucks. I gained 40lbs total with my daughter (was 120lbs pre-pregnancy), but lost 30lbs within two weeks of having her. I gained none of it within the last month of pregnancy. I just wanted to make sure I don't gain anymore than 30lbs this time since I still had 10lbs left (putting me at 130lbs pre-pregnancy this time).
Obviously this HAS to be water retention since I am bloated and what not. But I am just scared I'm going to gain 40lbs AGAIN and then have 20+lbs left over. Ugh.
Anyone else gain alot of weight rapidly in the beginning? Tell me I'm not alone!
Thanks everyone.

Open Question: I'm pregnant and my husband smokes weed everyday. He has never smoked around me. Will it harm the baby?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 17:58:42 GMT)
I wasn't planning on this pregnancy since I am on birth control and we are clearly not ready for children, we just got married. My husband has smoked marijuana everyday for almost 10 years. He has quite smoking as of three days ago. We already had talked about him quitting before becoming parents. But now I'm pregnant and he didn't quit until we found out. I'm wondering if his previous use could effect our baby? When it was conceived he smoked everyday. Any answers would help, I have an appointment with my doctor next week but I'm really worried and anyones input is greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Open Question: Mothers who have nursed through pregnancy?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 17:51:22 GMT)
I am almost 36 week pregnant with my second, and still nursing my first (he'll be 2 the end of march). The problem is that I despise nursing at the moment, and have since quite early in my pregnancy. I feel terrible about it, especially since DS still clearly wants to nurse and I so often refuse.
I'm terrified that my displeasure for nursing won't go away by the time the baby is born. I can't imagine building a successful nursing relationship with a new baby when my heart is so clearly not in it.
If you have nursed an older child during pregnancy:
Did you despise nursing while you were pregnant?
-If you did, did your displeasure with nursing disappear once the new baby arrived?
-And were you successful in nursing the new baby?
Did your child wean during your pregnancy?
-If they weaned, was it your choice or theirs?
-If they weaned, did they nurse again once the baby arrived
thanks
Also, how old was your older nursling?
herdoula- you experience sounds exactly like mine, I'm so happy to hear that those feelings went away in time for you to nurse your second.

Open Question: What do i DO With my ex with his Baby mama DRAMA?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 17:49:32 GMT)
My Boyfriend and I were on a on and off Relationship for A little over 2 years and we finally broke up for 5-6 months because he went back with one of his ex's and was possibly having a kid. Didn't and then they broke up and a month or more after they did we started talking again. and got back together for a little over 2-3 weeks and now AGAIN we broke up because she (the Ex) said she was pregnant and had problems but, she told him she had a miscarriage but apparently she had pics. to prove it and she was able to take some medicine and things are now ok so he broke up with me to work things out with her because of the baby . He said he wasn't happy about it. I just feel heart broken because i finally get him back again and now taken away. what do i do move on or keep trying to be with him?

Open Question: Does being nauseousand not getting period really mean that I'm pregnant? Or can it be something else?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 17:47:17 GMT)
I have a baby of 3 Months. I got my period last month on the 8th. Today we are on the 10 and I haven't gotten my period. And for the past 2 weeks i've been feeling like throwing up.. But i dont.. last night my husband and I were going to eat chicken. But it made me wanna trow up just by thinking about it..
What other reason other than being pregnant can this be??
Im 2 days late on my period. Is it to early to take a pregnancy test?
I dont have diarrhea though.. and isn't that a symptom of stomach flu?
No im not taking any kind of medication.. =( Wow..its going to be hard if im pregnant again because i just had a baby 3 months ago..But oh well.. If I'm pregnant then I'll keep my baby, Of Course.

Open Question: Integrated Prenatal Screening?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 17:39:04 GMT)
I know that where you live they may have a different name for this, it is the ultrasound before 14weeks where they look for Spina Bifida, Down's Syndrome, and Trisomy 18. They also do blood work to measure proteins in your blood, ....or something?
I am 10 weeks and 3 days pregnant and had my first prenatal appt. with an OB yesterday. They are sending me for this IPS test (Integrated Prenatal Screening) within a couple of weeks. I never had this test done with my son.
The pamphlet said that many women will have "positive" results for one of these abnormalities, but few women actually go on to have disabled children. Most of the time the children are born without any type of abnormality.
It says 4 in 100 women will have a positive result and all this means is that there is A CHANCE for these things and that most women go on to have normal babies.
So I am a bit confused on the point to this test. Why put worry into a mothers head if really, chances are, the baby will be fine?
Has anybody ever had a positive result and the baby was fine? What about a positive and there was actually a problem with the baby?
I know many most people would like to know ahead of time if there may be a problem, but can't they come up with a better test? LOL I mean scaring all these families seems stupid!
And if your child was going to be born with Down's, or SB, or Trisomy 18...is it really going to affect whether you keep the baby or not?
I guess I am just really nervous, and confused...
4 in every 100 women doesn't seem so rare to me...

Open Question: Is Light red spotting normal during pregnancy?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 17:36:46 GMT)
I am almost 7 weeks pregnant and during the middle of the night when I went to use the bathroom I saw a little dark pinkish/redish blood on the tissue, it then happened again this morning when I used it again. I am just kind of scared and need to know if I should go to the doctor or if it's fine, I have had jus slight cramps here and there afterwards. Has any other women had this happen and still carry their baby to full term?
Any info helps, Thanks.

Open Question: Losing your job whilst pregnant? (for people in the UK!!)?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 17:35:22 GMT)
Got told today that my 6 month contract will NOT be renewed when it ends on 30 March. This was not a surprise to me as I am 13 weeks pregnant and another employee who was on a temp contract was told she would not be renewed last year. I've also been off sick with pregnancy sickness (have doctor's notes) which no doubt has annoyed my manager greatly (despite pregnancy related ilnessc being protected under anti-discrimination laws in the UK).
I've been with the company snice January 2008 and a little p*d off at this, but it was no less than I expected, they do NOT treat their staff well and there is way too much favouritism.
Anyway, what to do? I have five days to appeal but tbh I can't see myself being well enough to go back in just yet and even if I did and they gave me another 6 months contract, my baby is due mid-September and so I would not be able to work the full 6 months out. I don't think I'd get SMP if my contract ended two weeks after giving birth. I can't see much point in "appealing" . . .
I should be able to claim Maternity Allowance from 27 weeks but not sure what to do in the interim. I have a three year old son at home so I'm not so worried about the "being bored" thing as the "lack of money" thing! Especially with baby bits and pieces to buy! I only worked part time and probably haven't paid enough NI stamps to get JSA, and my hubby works so I can't get Income Support. hubby doesn't really earn enough to support us both. We get tax credits already.
Any ideas? I don't feel well enough to go job hunting yet - am still praying my pregnancy sickness will ease off soon. I'm already showing so I can't think that applying for a job and keeping the pregnancy secret would work. I doubt anyone would want to take a pregnant woman on anyway, knowing she'll be off on maternity leave by August at the latest.
Anyone else lost their job whilst pregnant? What did you do?
NB: am in the UK so don't need advice relevant to the USA thanks!

Open Question: I need your advance and thoughts! does my baby have a chance of surviving?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 17:34:57 GMT)
I went for a blood test and an ultrasound yesterday.
My hCG level went up to 10620 (on March 7 it was at 5723)
I am exactly 6 weeks pregnant as today.
These are my ultrasound results. (Can someone please break it down for me and tell me the honest truth)
Provided history: ?MISSED ABORTION
EXAMINATION FINDINGS: Comparison to previous dated March 7, 2010.
There is a 7 mm mean diaeter intrauterine gestational sac. While the sac remains unchanged in size, it is now seen to contain a 2 mm yolk sac. Structure is a mean sac diameter of 16 mm.
There is a small subchorionic hemorrhage measuring 13 x 8 x 3 mm.
Right ovary is again noted to contain a luteal cyst measuring 2.4 cm. No free fluid is present.
Opinion: Tiny yolk sac within early intrauterine gestational sac. Recommend continued close clinical correlation and serial quantitative beta hCG monitoring with sonographic reassessment in about 7-10 days time.
Does my pregnancy sound like it's progressing? Or am I at high risk of having a miscarriage?

Open Question: Can you be late or miss a period even when you are on the pill?
(Wed, 10 Mar 2010 17:29:57 GMT)
I have been on the pill for almost two years. a few weeks ago someone spiked my soda and I am pretty sure I had sex but I don't want to jump to the conclusion I am pregnant. I Usually start my period on a Wednesday morning, well it's Wednesday afternoon and I have NO SIGNS AT ALL about starting my period soon. Now this has happened in the passed and I have been depressed and stressed, and this has happened before but it was like 8-10 months ago, but I am just still worried. I don't want to worry my boyfriend. But is there a way I'm just late? or that it is possible to miss your period on the pill?
